while smoothing is often a great way to make the model look, well, smoother, you generally should be selective about it, as there's places where sharp corners would look far better. some of those places are the indentations where I think torpedo tubes are.

The only torpedo launch tubes on the thing are in the back so far, and what they need is a separate material, not unsmoothing. I'll place two more on the two secondary hulls, right under the saucer. I think I'll have to kill the phoenix picture for the most part, and add a ventral observation deck or something. And yes, I'm having various problems with smoothing, but they're mostly due to the relatively low polygon count, for example where the saucer joins the secondary hulls, and the hull area around the deflector array. I need to split some polygons to add smoothness.

Phase cannon turrets. Got the idea from the recent Star Trek movie. And the indentations are supposed to be sharp - that's one of the smoothing problems I'm trying to solve.

This should be the Stoneworker's guild to include sculptors. Come on, they might make tables and doors the other 99% of the time but when masons make art it deserves recognition.

Definitely making gains. This last one is much more cohesive and brushwork is becoming a lot more descriptive.

Jopax is posting pictures all over the places whereas I haven't contributed anything in AGES. To rectify this, here's some idle doodlings.

Decided to share some art.

Anyone got a good idea on drawing scar tissue? She is kinda wearing a halfmask.

Other helpful tips are appreciated.

The thick black line is a problem. When you look at things in real life, you don't see a thick black outline around everything. So in your drawings, it shouldn't be there either. It's a good base, but when you start coloring in/shading, it needs to go.

After the above, try changing the background so the focus is more likely to move to the hands or the face first, instead of right below the breasts.

Soad, you have doodles of greatness. Is the girl with glasses from somewhere else like Spy is?

Imagine a cool peice of sky-blue and milk-white marble about 3cm by 2cm and by 0.5cm, containing a tiny 2mm malacolite crystal. Now imagine the miles of metamorphic rock it's embedded in that no pick or chisel will ever touch. Then, imagine that those miles will melt back into their mantle long before any telescope even refracts an image of their planet. The watchers will be so excited to have that image too.
