I wouldn't say that the df interface is hostile so much as apathetic.

But, but, there's even an in-game manual and everything!

That's diabolical.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

It's not like the suggestion to press "?" for the manual is present on the fucking main menu or anything, right?

it's really not as confusing as people make out with it to be
No, it really is.  You're just smart.

(and the retcon mechanic is still excessive and somewhat betrays everything that came before, but meh)

Edit:  Jegusdammit I didn't catch that.

I see who you did there.

To be fair, at some point since I first played DF the manual has been expanded to contain some amount of actually relevant information.

MSPA's FAQ on the other hand hasn't been updated in forever.

The main key to MSPA, especially the retcon power, is assuming that everything does exactly what it says it does, and taking everything at face value. Seriously.

Really? It seemed to fit perfectly into the theme of the story to me.

I don't mind people being confused by MSPA, I just hate it when people complain about [current arc] being confusing and nothing getting explained. Like you can take for granted that plot mysteries #1-874 were explained, but somehow don't expect the same to happen with #875.

Think of it like Sim City, except with rival mayors that seek to destroy your citizens by arming legions of homeless people and sending them to attack you.

It's just yet another layer on top of an already very layered plot.  Just in my opinion, things were plenty interesting and complicated with stable time loops.  But, I suppose we always knew it would go even more meta.

Onion-like layers? Of irony?

Damn you Hussie. I don't know how you create such intricate lines that seem to connect relatively unconnected events together, but you do it. Well done.
