Dwarf in Fey mood just standing there.
« on: July 24, 2009, 11:24:46 pm »

My only skilled Glass maker has been taken by a (edit) Fey mood and is just hanging in his room.

I just finished save/loading back and forth, trying to get two dwarves out of an immigrant wave that I could actually use. I don't want to go through all that again so I don't want to just load before "Glassy" got the fell mood BUT I'm afraid to save now that he is in one if it turns out he is doomed for insanity.

What can I do to get Glassy out of this funk?

I already have Craftsdwarfs shops and Glass furnaces.

If he's in a Fell mood (as opposed to Fey) then you've got other problems.

Make sure you have a tanner's workshop and a leatherworking place (are they the same thing? it's been a couple of weeks since I actually played...)

Just to confirm is it Glass furnaces or Magma Glass furnaces? Magma furnaces are not counted to solve fey mood.

There's a noticeable lack of glass furnace on that list. Also, is magma on the map? if so, you'll need to make a magma glass furnace AND a regular glass furnace - inspired dwarves will want either one or the other. (Urist: "I can't use the magma furnace for my masterpiece! The sulfur fumes tint the glass!" Cog: "Well, I can't use a coal-fired furnace for mine! The magma makes the glass so much easier to work with!"

Thanks guys, I had no idea about the furnace preference. I already have two magma glass furnaces but no straight up glass furnaces.

I'm building one now and I have plenty of coke. Hopefully this works.

No problem - I was kind of hoping it really was a Fell mood, for the awesome factor. I didn't want to spoil it for you though. :P

But if you already know what they are or just don't care:

For the record, strange moods don't need any fuel. The dwarf apparently just yells at the material until it's hot enough to work with.

Toady, how much of DF is inspired by Labyrinth? Is Armok actually David Bowie? Because that would simultaneously be disturbing and awesome.

Okay, NEW problem. Glassy's got everything he needs but is just sitting in his workshop.

He needs:
Silk cloth
Tanned hides
Raw green glass
Plant fiber cloth
Bones

So far he's grabbed one of each:
Raw green glass
Rope reed cloth
Saigon Molly Bones
Cave spider silk cloth

I have 111 tanned hides and made some fresh ones justy to be sure, I have tons of everything else, with the exception of silk cloth of which I have one left.

What gives?

(edit: Saigon Molly? You know what I mean.)

Saigon Molly? Nice name, heh.

Check his profile, it's possible that he wants some specific type of leather.

You may have to hope he holds out until the next caravan comes around so you can pick up a whole bunch of leather.

Sometimes fey dwarves get real picky over what they want.

I'm learning by the hour. Funny, I thought all I had left to learn was siege weapon building and nobles. There is always more to learn from DF it seems.

Anyway Glassy's preferences don't seem to be a factor:
"Glassy likes Rutile, Pig iron, Precious fire opal, amber, the color dark violet, grates(?), ballista parts ??? Dogs, Muskoxen, and Dwarven ale.

Edit: I also have allot of variety when it comes to leather, I have two pages listing the different types.
