Coal is a moot point now.
Make charcoal instead! It's just like coal but made from logs in a furnace.

I'd have to download a newer version first.

Everyone, thanks for talking about IndustrialMod.  I decided to give it a try, the first mod I ever installed, and I am loving it so much.  I haven't even got to the point that I can build all the neat machines, and it's so much fun.  Strip mining with a drill = wonderful.  The fast-dig mods feel like cheats, this doesn't because of the tradeoffs and extra work.

I like to call this my Grass Transfer Unit. Works slowly, but I want grass up here, dirt makes it look like crap.

FYI, if that staircase was two tiles wide, the grass would expand up it around four times as fast.  And it would only take 50% more dirt.

50%.  The original staircase needed two blocks per level, right?  But the addition only needs one block per level.

Man, IndustrialCraft revs fast.  3.99 now.  I guess Alblaka follows the release very early, release very often philosophy.

And... I think I'll keep release 3.93 around for a while, so that I can occasionally downgrade to craft MFEs.  I think that will be OK as long as I don't craft the new mystery blocks.

Eh, I'm a bigger newb anyway since i don't even know how to activate peaceful mode.

Anyway, I forgot that gravel falls and ended up falling into the sea of lava I was trying to cross.
So now would be a good time to optimize those setting such that I can live in a world of an ancient, forgotten civilisation and fight monsters.
Meanwhile, I suppose I should also rework the settings on mausoleums.
They're full of monster spawners (and chests, of course), but right now, they're way too frequent.
That last map had about five or six in the starting chunk.
