Twas fun.

Aquizzar; what if you place another cart on the tracks in front of/below you and try to get inside of THAT one?

Maybe that will fix it.

That's a good idea.  But I didn't have another minecart to place.  I'll keep that in mind from now on, but I'll give this another shot in a minute.

I encountered the exact same bug a while back, but an update fixed it.  It was a good idea to end the process, if it saved like that you would still be stuck when you next played.

Just continued my old save tonight. Did well. I ventured through the Spelunker Mines I discovered earlier, and cleaned the place out of gravel iron and coal. That place was packed. Easily over 150 units of coal have been found, and almost 100 units of iron have been found. Not a bad haul. While at it, I also found a spider dungeon spawn point. Contents were a couple saddles, some iron ingots, and 2 iron buckets, along with a golden apple and some stalks of wheat. Not bad treasure.

Interestingly enough, I found a few other openings that stem from it, and highlighted their exposures so I won't accidentally fall in while venturing at night. I also incidentally found another cavern that has more of a pit access. No gold, diamond or red dust yet. Not even magma. At least I have 3 buckets in stock now without having to waste iron.

I have been having some troubles at home (Starter Mines), so I did a little modifying of the layout. I recently dug myself a real back door into the mines by using a cliff face that'll take a little jumping to reach, but easy nonetheless. I had to do it, seeing as creepers are annoying as hell, and already damaged my front door enough times, as well as severely damaged a well I made (infinite water supply) nearby, almost flooding the front door area. Fortunately, only 1 tile was exposed, and the leak was easy to repair.

To further protect the front door area, I've surrounded the sides of the front door path with cactii (an impenetarable "vvv" setup on both ends. It's been effective thus far, and I have established a small cactus plantation (2 cactii) in a reserved plantation in the farms, and I riddled the coastline and a tiny island with reeds for book production and scenery implements (as well as reed wells).

Considering my tree farm as it stands is just a breeding ground for mobs and creepers, I might deforest the area, and maybe build a more proper tree farm and fence off the open area left behind as animal (and creep) storage, or at least, make it easier for them to keep away. I'll maybe make an easier to access tree farm in an out-of-the-way enough location. At least where it can work, look nice, and still provide at least a sufficient stock per harvest.

I could maybe set it up nearby one of the caves I found, and make a home out of one of them. While at it (after setting up the farm), I might explore the new pit I discovered near the Spelunker Mines.

Minecraft: the only game where you find a treasure chest deep within a spider-infested dungeon, open the chest to reveal a couple of saddles and two iron buckets, and announce "Not bad."  :P

Well, it also wasn't bad because that was a pretty frikkin' large cave that took me 3-5 in-game days to clean out what's already exposed on sight (and a little discovery after removing gravel walls as well), as well as block off the spider-spawner with torches, and I found some pre-refined iron ingots (about 6 bars-worth) with the 2 buckets (5 bars-worth each) and a freaking gold apple (10 health after eating; costs an apple and 9 gold BLOCKS (9 gold ingots each block)) and a pair of saddles for riding the animals, plus the treasure chests themselves, and if I can carefully extract it, some mossy cobblestone as well; let's not forget getting tons of coal while at it in the nearby pockets. And if I feel up to it, it should already be deep enough to hunt for redstone or magma. It just wasn't pre-revealed yet. That's why it wasn't bad.

I do a little exploratory mining, I might hit a neighboring cave system, or a pocket of magma. I've got my fingers crossed I would find some diamonds. If I can get me some diamonds, mining will be quicker, and I can snag me that spawner, and make me a livestock pen. Or at least see what I can do to farm silk from the spawner and make it an export. But as of now, it's only good for making cloth blocks and sheep are easier to use for that, so livestock it is.

EDIT:
Just out of curiosity, I might try extracting the cobblestone walls and see if the walls lead to more tunnels. I think that tends to happen. If I find another dungeon like a next-door neighbor, I might take a screenshot of it. I haven't done enough architecture that would call for an update iso-. Spent the whole time in the mines. Plus, all you'll end up seeing is tons of reeds lining my coasts and a few craters at my front door. Speaking of craters and creepers, I have myself a good 10 boxes of TNT crafted. I may need more flint and feathers so I can safely get more GP for making some. I'm hoping, but nervous, that I find a creeper spawn so I have a GP factory, but to make such a thing may be a little tricky.

EDIT EDIT:
This was also my first dungeon I found in Minecraft.

They don't exist unfortunately.

Since Notch insists on making gunpowder so hard to obtain, I wish he'd make it so creepers are guaranteed to drop at least one upon death. It's just a major Fuck You when they drop nothing.

Yup, thanks for the info.

Being a Factalnaut is some good times, unless of course you are on my computer, which can only render in to a certain degree... :(
