Cartograph? For finding IRON?

That's pretty desperate.

I figured it was what all the cool kids were doing, since everyone seems to have so much more awesome stuff than me.  Honestly, it baffles the crap out of me.

Point is, it won't be there.  Except for maybe the server player, but that would really be cheating.

Either they are hacking it in, or more likely, spelunking like crazy.

I usually come out with at least a stack of Iron.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

Next week:

Tuesday or Wednesday: A first, very rough, version of Survival Multiplayer
Thursday: I leave for BIGJam in Berlin, a weekend of meeting other indie game developers and making games.
There won’t be a seecret Friday update next week, because of this.

August 10: I return from Berlin!

August 11-13: Patching up multiplayer bugs, doing a small Friday update

This guy has the worse sense of timing.  Step 1: Release big awesome thing that everyone wants, in horribly unpolished form.  Step 2: Go on long-ass European vacation.  Step 3: Ten minutes of fixing incredibly obvious bugs when I get back.  At least he isn't going on vacation for three months, like with the original Survival release.
four 5 days is hardly a long-ass vacation.
Rolf Jannson (or sen, I can never remember how he spells it) of Wurm fame is constantly doing far more broken releases before far longer vacations.

Three days of bug fixing is not ten minutes.
This is Notch, not VALVe.

Economy is fun. I vote for a semi-peaceful enemy level though, when we do get our server running (and enemies are out).
I don't want hundreds of creepers trying to kill me all the time. :(

1) As Notch put in his blog, enemies won't even be in multiplayer until like a month after he puts out the first edition, so we see how it works first.
2) Creepers = Gunpowder = Mancannons
3) If you're not playing survival on at least Normal difficulty, you're doing it wrong.  Otherwise it's just Creative but a lot slower.  (My brief interlude with Peaceful when the cave noises scared the crap out of me notwithstanding.)

I really screwed this world over this time.

What in God's name did you do to that map?

It's creative with waterslides and exploring. Good enough for me.

What in God's name did you do to that map?
I don't even...
The stripes came from deleting/replacing random chunk folders and messing with the seed in NBTEdit, but ALL THE STONE IS GONE.
I don't even know how.
But the SAND.  OH GOD, THE SAND.
I was standing on a beach when I last saved it before this fresh hell opened up.  I don't know how I survived the entire world collapsing around me.

Although with the addition of powered minecarts, we can reliably make "trains" out of a few regular carts and a powered one.

S = storage cart
M = minecart
P = powered cart

We could have something like

Transport Train
PMMM

Storage Train
PSSS

Add or remove carts as needed.

Put another powered cart in the front.
It might take two coal to work instead of one, but it looks more realistic and your front carts won't fly away from the engine if you go down a slope.

Player/storage carts cannot make powered carts move in the slightest.
So unless the powered cart in back can transfer its "can_move_enigne_cart" flag up through the others, that will just result in a cart sandwich.

cart sandwich.
Delicious.

And yeah, them forums. Those rascals. I can't wait to see which unrealistic demand they'll be disappointed by in Secret Update 8.

Heh, I set myself up for that one.
Was it on purpose?
Or not?

You'll never know  ;)

The game keeps crashing in SANDISASTER world.
It's almost sad, really.
The ores are ridiculously easy to find when they're just floating out in Nothingmanland

Just tested the cart sandwich idea and they do, in fact, get stuck if you don't power the frontman.

E: Wow.
When I put coal in the front, the first cart in the sandwich got sent flying.
Also, the train is SLOOOOW.  But it looks like a train, not just some cart getting pushed around.

E2:

I had three carts in there before.

E3: One running enginecart colliding with another inexplicably makes them both slow down.
The pushcart on that train ran out and the figurehead engine in the front went flying.

E4: Might as well make this a content post.

This is what remains of the beach I was standing on.
It is SO HARD (no double entendres, keep your mind out of the gutter) to get anywhere to take a picture with it crashing every time I move out of a chunk.  Damn you, sand!

Started up a new world, doing stuff.

Mostly me just being nomadic. I carry a hut in my pack and a sword in  my hand as I explore the world. Being nomadic can be really fun. You're never tied down to one location, and you don't have to worry about leaving stuff behind!

..But that does give up the convenience of more 'civilized' tools and devices.
