Summer's gone a while ago
The daylight dims away
I'm watching here how the snow begins to fall
Yesterday is like a dream
A memory in my head
Like all the life's gone behind the winter wall

I'm lighting up the candles and locking up the door
Sitting by the fire
It's time to drink some more

I have to find a way how to survive
I am surrounded by the starlight
I have to find the path
How to escape
From the cold winter nights

Snowfall maps had better be a selectable option in multiplayer servers.

Will MP be infinite? Or will they end up having a huge adminium wall?

The winter nights in Minecraft are absolutely stunning. I have a small cabin on top of a mountain, and you can look down on a frozen lake.

Eventually, even the "infinite" maps have a wall...
But it's at 8x the surface area of the Earth or something, IE unfeasible to ever reach.
As far as MP is concerned, we're hoping for infinite, but he might have to scale back to finite for the time being if there are too many bugs or he can't get memory usage into a feasible amount or something.

I don't think Notch himself knows what it will really look like yet, but he's sounded like he wants MP maps to be infinite, or at least infinite in storage.  The adminium barrier will be replaced by RAM and bandwidth limitations.

So, I had a big post with like eight pictures typed up, showing off a castle I was building.  I pretty much have to abandon it now, since it doesn't have snow and snow is awesome, so I figured I'd show it off as close as it'll get to complete.  It's not as impressive as some peoples crazy-huge plantations, but it's the biggest I've made.  Then Firefox did something weird on me, so here's the last two important pictures.

The first floor is a kitchen/armory (since a forge and chest full of roast pork doubles as both), the second floor is unused reception space, and the third floor is the two guest rooms.  The tower is most undecorated, except for the master bedroom at the top.  The tower also has a water column running down the middle of a spiral staircase, which empties out the side there.  It kinda looks like a terlit, so I made another one in the guest wing.  A terlit that flushes down a column in the middle of a spiral staircase.  Also, golden chandeliers in the bedrooms and ballroom.  They're not so much impressive for their design as for the 63 gold bars that went into making them.

It also has a very impressive oceanfront view, from the northwest corner of this continent I'm on.  I was going to make a guardhouse around the cave entrance at the bottom, but I'm off for colder, more challenging climates now.  So long hilltop manor, it was a lot of fun building you and falling in the lava a couple times.

Hold it right there.
It's possible to get snow in existing maps.
Open the level.dat up in NBTEdit and change SnowCovered to 1.

I was somehow considered for moderation in the Minecraft forums, so now I sport a purple name and the basic moderation functions in the infdev section of the forums. Huzzah for me.

And somebody posted some suggestions for fixing the lighting on my space map, so I'll get onto repairing that thing for player use. Hopefully if lighting is fixed the speed will stabilize and things can be better handled. Although ultimately I would want to make a creative mode Bay12 server with a big 'ol rock and tell people to make a space station on it for SMP dungeoneering action.
