Kobold Roadkill
« on: May 14, 2009, 07:19:57 am »

I just had a Kobold Thief appear right in front of the foremost trader wagon; the soldiers were lagging behind due to taking potshots at hippos in the nearby river.

The Thief ran forward in fear, but the wagon simply plowed right over the top of him.

And did this;

Ladies and Gentlemen; Wagons can run shit over.

You didn't know this before? The autumn caravan in one of my old forts used to help by running over zombie camels who were plaguing my entrance ramp every goddamn year (before my military dwarfed-up and became competent enough to deal with the infestation).

Still, it's an amusing image.

Indeed i did not know this; i've never seen it happen before and the wiki doesn't mention anything about wagons running things over.

Hahah, that's hilarious. I keep imagining this very slow moving but incredibly big and heavy wagon just plowing down a bunch of elves.

In an earlier thread when I mentioned this, one person said that the wagon doesn't actually do that. It's the driver who gets attack rolls... or maybe the wagon gets attack rolls? We're not sure.

The Wagon doesn't have any attacks listed in its raws; so i doubt it's the Wagon.

I'm guessing the driver 'attacks' for it; which is functionally identical to the Wagon running dudes over.

What about the horses in fron of the wagon? I randomly put tame horses on restraints through my fortress and they are great in detecting and killing kobolds/goblin snatchers

Even without attacks the wagons would still get the 1:1 damage push attack all creatures use when out of attack options.  With wagons being size 12 that would still be rather damaging to something small like a kobold or goblin.

Of course wagons could be specifically coded to not be able to attack, but I don't imagine why when being within the wagon's actual attack range would mean it's under the wagon, and the attacks would simulate roadkill nicely.

If combat reports were on when the wagon ran the kobold over we would likely find out for sure.  But it's not common enough to really predict.

THIS HAS TO BE DONE;

Trap a few years worth of Wagons.

Lock them all up (with floodgates).
Place Dozens of Goblins/Orcs/kobolds infront of it.

Unleash the Stamped.

Perhaps adding the firebreath tag to wagons could eventually give you proof within the next ten roadkills.

Never underestimate the power of EQUIPMENT_WAGON.

(you're probably right, but seriously wagons are weird)
