Now, honestly, I have no idea what you have to do. You must go your own way, for I have taught you all I can.

I made a station, now i just need to make a server

How do i do that?

fair warning, it uses the goon station map. Which tends to get blown up VERY quickly. (its designed for badness to spread quickly)

To host, open the .dmb file and look in the lower right of the dream seeker window.  Next to the Chat and Alt buttons theres a Host... button.  Click it and it'll ask what settings you want to host at.  Port 0 autoassigns a port for you to host on, otherwise you can choose your own.  You can also change whether or not the game shows up on the hub by switching it to visible or invisible.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

alrighty then, I have one up sometime tomorrow. It generated a pretty good map. Different than the goon map.

I'll host tomorrow.

That's easily the most frustrating half an hour I've spent on any game in recent memory.

I might have started to get even the remotest slight hang of it...but still, without a REAL manual, one that explains how to use items without having to discover by experimentation (hint: it's not enough to click your hand icon, you gotta click the item, which is hard when it's a two-pixel-wide pen) and that explains how to stop pulling items etc...  Yeah, I'm out.

No more today for me.  :P

If your new to the game and need some help there are a few websites that can help you.

http://ss13.donglabs.com/

You usually have the best experiences on the goon servers, mainly because of the amount of people. It gets boring with 3 players.

Does anyone here know how to program BYOND games? If so, how about trying to make a game similar to SS13 but DF-themed? In a dwarf mountain-home, with the 'disasters' ranging from tantrumming dwaves to carp to magma etc.

The BYOND engine seems to be a good engine to make such a DF online game, as it's simple to use, simple to share, is 2D-tile based, and has many games with such open-endedness possibilities (SS13 being only one of them), so we know its possible.

I wouldn't use BYOND for that. SS13 is probably the only open ended game that uses BYOND. Even then, the only complex thing in it is the air system.

Also, why are you guys complaining that you can't grief? Wouldn't you expect that? Besides, if you grief creatively then the admins don't care. They might even help you.
