What with the Defib units scattered about, a killed survivor can't be thrown out of reach of the regular survivors unless they die by falling off a bridge or something, so as to make sure they can get revived.

Also, going through the music files reveals, among other things, that the Tank gets two new theme remixes in addition to his old ones.

There's five songs on the jukebox, but the fifth one only pops up rarely, so you're not likely to hear it. You'll recognize it when it plays, though.

I was like, ha, this looks like a pretty dumb and boring game. I was so wrong. Gentlemen, I have discovered true fun.

Playing as the infected is indeed quite fun.

Are there any significant changes to Infected gameplay?

Other than the obvious additions of the Jockey, charger and Spitter.

Though i suppose you won't be able to tell, as you arent meant to be able to play as them anyway.

Okay, this is just silly...  The Smoker, Spitter and Boomer all cause detrimental effects to the area around them when they die.  As such, players will generally be cautious enough to push them back out of range and then shoot them in safety.

But the 'kill' command negates all that.  Simply drop down or run into the group and hit the bound key, and you can trigger the effects at the exact moment and place that YOU want to.  This is astoundingly unfair for the survivors, particularly with the boomer.

That boomer blast has got quite a large radius.  Just waddle somewhat close to everyone and then splatter, and you'll be able to knock them back (thus preventing them from shooting for a second or so, and also scattering them slightly) while sliming the whole lot.  That is a devastating tactic, and the only way to defend against it is to just not let them sneak up on you, which isn't always as easy as it sounds.

And the Smoker can be just as deadly if used correctly.  The smoke cloud he puts off is nearly impossible to see through and prevents characters from automatically warning others of incoming Chargers, Jockeys, TANKS, etc...  And there's not a whole heck of a lot you can do about it.

The Spitter is too slow and too fragile to utilize this tactic as effectively, and the effect is more of an annoyance than a danger.  She's better off hiding out and waiting for her next big acidic loogie to come along.  Still though, under the right circumstances, she might as well die in the middle of the survivors than off in some corner or something.

It struck me a while back just how deadly a coordinated special infected attack could be.  Boomer pukes/blasts at least one of the survivors, Charger runs through them and takes one with him, Smoker nabs one of the remaining ones and then a Jockey hops on the second-to-last survivor.

This leaves 3/4 survivors getting helplessly pounded, and the only guy who can save them is slimed.  And besides, which one does he go after first?  Better decide fast.

Looks like you can pre-load it now. Not that it matters, since it comes out in ten/nine days.

stuff
Yeah, that's all been like that since the first game; one of the first patches made "kill" a cheat, so sv_cheats had to be on to use it (survivors would also grief with it, join a game, then kill themselves, or kill themselves if they were being votekicked). A coordinated infected attack is deadly, but harder than you think to pull off.

Really, the only use I see for the spitter is to cause a bit of disruption during a panic event, drive the survivors out of that nice safe corner, or scatter them after a boomer pops in. It doesn't hurt enough to keep you from dashing through, and it doesn't last long enough to be a good denial of area attack... The jockey I see as being a nuisance, both to fight and to play as. Nine out of ten times you'll probably accomplish nothing, but that last time, you ruin someone's day. >:D

On a stand-point from non-versus play and in expert, there are some good people out there without mics....

Yea, mics are alot more useful on versus... but, it doesn't make em as useless as the AI... mostly...

I can come up with a number of uses for the spitter, some of which the AI specials have used against me. Like spitting on a pounced, smoked, pummeled or incapacitated survivor. Or spitting behind the survivors when a tank is rushing from the front. And yeah, spitting between boomed and non-boomed survivors should be fun.

Also, jogging over a fully formed acid patch really hurts you plenty as the damage increases exponentially.

I haven't tried the versus plug-in yet, tempting though it is. The "bugs" (like the 'kill'-command) and limitations somewhat make me want to wait for the proper version to get the most out of the versus experience, but we'll see how well I hold up this last week.

Spitter damage is probably the single most annoying special infected attack. It really, really hurts after about 2 seconds of standing in it and is really difficult to tell if you've been boomer-ed or are getting hounded by other zombies anyway. Also, it's the only one that prevents survivors from going somewhere.

For example, if a spitter stands in a choke point, even if she dies, she still prevents the survivors from getting anywhere, in fact, probably leaving them still standing in that same tiny chokepoint area. Brilliant for the other special infected.

So basically, target the spitter at all costs?

Unless she's standing in a doorway?

Also, if she is in a choke point, can you just shoot her and cross before the acid ruins your day?

I wouldn't know.

The acid blob looks BEEG from pictures i've seen.

And i still wish the SIs would dismember in the same fashoin as the Common infected.

My favorite scum infected to play are the Charger, Boomer, Spitter, and to a less extent the Jockey; it seems a lot more situational than the others. The spitter and female Boomer models still disturb me, though.
