I've used a wish on amulets of unchanging before, several times.

Being a black dragon for some questbosses is handy. Just remember that unchanging might cost you your extra life.

Ah, looks like SOME of my NAO information got deleted. But it kept the important things. Like record of my valkyrie ascension, nd the rubber chicken incident.

ALMIGHTY GOOGLE WHERE IS THE GEOCITIES CORPSE SPOILER aha.

Elbereth is your friend. Use it often.

I tried.
After I spotted them I engraved it until they reached me.
Then it wore off...

Elbereth a few times, drop a coin, step off. Provided the Elbereths didn't wipe off in that short time frame, and you're in a narrow hallway, they won't cross over the Elbereth to chase you, and they don't have projectiles, so feel free to snipe them in whatever fashion you fancy.

While standing on a E-word in dust, melee attack will wipe it out very quickly. Ranged attack wipes it out a bit slower, and standing still will wipe it out slower still.

You can melee on a E-word in dust - just make sure you have at least 10 E-words there, to increase the chance of leaving behind an intact E-word. Attack once, and write 3 more E-words. Use ":" a lot to monitor the status.

Remember to never write more than 1 E at a time, since dust-engraving it more than once takes up more than one turn, and thus opens you up to attack.

If you have the time to do a semi-permanent E, and you don't have a hard gem, remember this engraving trick:

with any spare hard weapon (like a spare crude dagger), then you can engrave a full Elbereth with it. However, if you try to engrave Elbereth all in one go, it'll become too dull before you finish. However, if you do it 3 letters at a time, and then you can finish the E before the weapon becomes too dull.

To demonstrate, do Elb first, then ere, then th. All as separate engravings, and it'll count as an semi-permanent Elbereth. Semi-perms have more lenient rules when being deformed, but are still fragile enough that you shouldn't fight on them. Just remember, each letter takes up ONE WHOLE TURN. It's vital that you remember that. Wands of digging however, can do a semi-permanent E in one turn, and use up only one charge doing so.

Also, remember to hoard wands of lightning and fire incase you're ever in a REALLY sticky situation, and need a permanent Elbereth RIGHT NOW.

Well so I had this Archeologist, who was going pretty well.

I found a Floating Eye in a corridor, but had no ranged weapons.
So I tamed another cat and surrounded the Floating Eye and myself between my two cats in that corridor, so I could melee it without danger.

Perfect plan right?
Wrong.
While I was paralized, a rock mole dug though the wall and bit me to death.

Nethack is a real bitch...

If you have no ranged weapon, leave the floating eye alone... it will follow you around, very slowly, and if you take care not to bump into it, it's harmless (except that it might block your escape route from some other monsters).

If you came across a boulder, break it and pickup a few rocks. Or you can throw just about anything at it... like a spare helmet. Throw something at it then step away. The floating eye will move after a few turns, and you can pickup the item to throw again.

Looks better now.

I have a level 6 knight.
As I was about to die, my pony apported me a wand of death.
Soon after that I found gauntlets of strength.
Now I got myself Excalibur.

...

This one will die horribly, won't he?

My guess is you'll zap your WoD against a monster who happens to be wearing a shield of reflection. Seems appropriately evil.

Now I have found a magic Lamp, a unicorn horn, lizard corpse, ring of invisibility and half a dozen other useful tools.

Maybe I reach mine's end for once.

Nethack's got a wonky difficulty curve, imo- the first bit is the hardest.

It really depends on how much you spoil yourself and how much you prepare like crazy for the last stretch of the game. The beginning is hard, yes, but the stretch from getting the amulet to getting to the high altar is very extremely hard if you're underprepared. The samurai was telling you guys about some 20 pages back had one hell of a time fighting Rodney, since I had no way of insta-killing him, and he sent me to the brink of death several times over. It was a hard, long, arduous journey filled with peril and many setbacks. It took determination, persistence, sacrifice, and bold ingenuity to overcome the challenges posed by Rodney, but then I choked on a Titan and DIED!

Still stings.
