Because the spell is instakill, not damage-dealing.

I know, but asterisks aren't used like that. They're used to signify a 'note' or something that you'd like to mentioned, related to that specific word or phrase, not to imply sarcasm.

I've heard somewhere that some people are trying to ascend while being drunk or stoned (hallucinating) all the way... as much as possible anyway. Never heard about the results though.

Alright, relearning the controls (as my DoomRL playing has screwed up my knowledge of them; "G" DOESN'T PICK UP!), and I'm doing my Dwarve Arc, I get into the gnomish mines, things are looking really good. A really great start, looks like I might be able to take this guy places.

You fall into a spiked pit! The spikes were poisonous! The poison was deadly...

I missed you too Nethack.

Deadly poison is actually a surprisingly rare phenomenon. The fact that the first spike pit I fall into after such a long break kills me instantly is just a sign that Nethack has been saving up it's hatred just for me.

I believe I've died from directly fatal "deadly poison" exactly twice. Which is strange, because I've been taken to 3 strength on several occasions.

New game, decided to just chill out with an easy game as a neutral human barbarian. It's a class I haven't done yet, and I need to relearn everything anyhow.

Not much besides me fumbling clumsily around in the Gnomish mines. I get lucky and the minetown altar is coaligned. Nothing real of note besides the fact that I forget that I shouldn't go down too far without MR, and I trigger a polytrap, turning into a bugbear and destroying my armor and my Cloak of protection! No! I like those cloaks! Anyway, it balances out when I find a magic lamp just moments later. Turns out to be cursed though. I come up with a brilliant plan however. Through careful manipulation, I lock all of the watch members in the various rooms, and I dig down into one of the fountains. I use the resulting puddles to dilute the miscellaneous potions I've been finding, and voila, holy water. Blessing and rubbing my lamp, I wish for a blessed greased fixed +2 magicbane.

I can't think of anything better. MR, engraving, effects, and most importantly, curse defense. Curse defense is HUGE, anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar! It's a shame that Magicbane is the only artifact that gives it.

Anyway, that's one artifact down, and I plan to use my next wish on an Orb of fate. I just hope I don't find a randomly generated artifact, however minute the chance is.

I forgot how much time this eats.

Why did I never think of making a puddle out of a fountain for dipping without dipping-in-fountain side-effects? That's brilliant.

Are you still a bugbear? I find playing as other than starting races very fun.

Speaking of Fun, I never ever won the game, not even in explore mode.
