I'm pretty damn sure you're not going to see this as a topic of discussion on this gaming forum as much as Spore was. I'm not sure why, so it looks like you'll have to guess!

Also, believe it or not, not all of us are GOING to screw up other threads about this. I doubt many, if any, will. Don't get pissy with me or other people in this thread just because one of them might mention it somewhere else.


And personally, I don't care if you don't notice the font as annoying. Different people notice different things, and I know enough people who dislike Comic Sans (and ridiculous typesetting in general) to know it isn't just some isolated pet issue a few people have.

I'm sorry, but some will.  Probably not you, but there will be some otherwise-intelligent person who probably will.  Threads get derailed fairly easily, something I now suspect the mere mentioning of Spore just now might bring about.

Inaluct, you realize that most of this thread is either whining or mocking?  Yes, even G-Flex just now.  Whining at me to chill.  You think this forum is the only place where comic sans has come up recently?  No, it isn't.  What is bothering me is people getting all upset and starting whole articles and threads about something none of them should be worrying about in the first place.

Also: I actually didn't have a problem spore, it was being going crazy over their disappointment that bothered me.  I'm not too sure what you are trying to say right at the beginning of that post, but that's just my best guess.

Honestly, I'm disappointed with this forum right now.  I was expecting this thread to be nothing but a joke when I first clicked it.

People talk about things. Things that don't necessarily affect them, and things they don't necessarily even ever seen. Never mind things they DO see, and which they see as annoying or silly.

Complaining about the font is silly.  I am worried this silliness won't end with this thread, and it will get elsewhere.  So I am trying to point out just how pointless it is to be bothered by the font that will not affect you or your time on something other than this thread. 

In other words, I've been trying to tell you who have been complaining about it to chill, because the font affects nothing to any major extent, and I can see this discussion being picked up somewhere else.

Why? When people see things like incompetence, poor taste, and things they simply don't like in the world around them, they're going to complain about it.

Oh, and the people SERIOUSLY complaining about it are people like typesetters and graphic designers. You know, the ones who should care in the first place.


And like I mentioned before, it does affect us. Design and aesthetics always affect us, and if the stuff I see around me is poorly-designed and looks awful or like it was designed by incompetent people, it's not going to help me any.

Hey LegoLord, have you ever seen Treasure of the Sierra Madre? You sound just like the main character, Fred C. Dobbs. He's played by Humphrey Bogart. There's one scene where he rocks back and forth in fetal position, consumed by greed and paranoia, accusing everyone else of trying to steal his gold. He does it in short, crazy sounding sentences, too.

Just replace "gold" with "Comic Sans" and "rock back and forth in fetal position" with "rave and foam at the mouth over people disliking your favorite font."

It's just a stupid fad.  They happen, and then they pass - like music-culture relations (gansta, rock-star, etc.).  Just wait a few years, possibly a few months, it will start to go back to ordinary level of use.

And just as a point of interest, if the majority of the people thing something looks good (or at least acceptable), who has the unusual view - the people who like and/or accept it, or those who hate it?

Most people aren't paying attention to it one way or another.

Also, there's a reason why something like graphic design is an actual profession: If everybody knew exactly what they wanted everything to look like and why, people wouldn't need to hire guys to do it.

Then those jobs should be safe, shouldn't they?  People wouldn't go to them if they thought they could do it themselves, right?  So it would be most likely that those people who thought they could do it themselves would do it regardless of what font was popular at the time.  Someone who realizes that they would be better off hiring a professional would do so regardless of popular font.  Font popularity shouldn't realistically harm the graphics designer job market.

I wasn't trying to continue the fight just now; I was trying to stop it, by looking at what the problem just now stated was asking how popularity of a font would affect a job market.  Just saying "stop it" never works, even when Toady does it.

I have seen plenty of boards that launch weird fights, because no one can tell who's being how serious about what.

I have never seen a board so committed to chewing each other out at a moment's notice for possibly fighting about something.  It's like everyone is terrified of confrontation, yet perfectly willing to get in each other's faces about it.

It's a font. Banning it is stupid. Using it all the time is stupid.
