any way to get around the minimum 80 tile X grid?
« on: February 18, 2009, 08:54:45 pm »

i've been messing around with graphics packs and I want to try running the game with a smaller grid + lower resolution (smaller area of the map visible, but with large tiles), but it says in the init.txt (and seems to be the case) that 80 is the minimum width of the screen in tiles. i have a pretty small monitor and this means running at 1280x960 minimum to accommodate 16x16 pixel tiles. it's really quite annoying, is there any way to get around it?

i can't imagine why there aught to be a minimum visible area.

There's a bunch of interface elements that are still hardcoded to use exactly 80 horizontal tiles.  The expandable grid was just a quick hack, the interface is going to receive more attention later.  Toady didn't want to spend time reworking interfaces that were probably going to become obsolete in later versions anyway.
