I remember that episode of one of them weird shows (something Zone or something Limits or something) where aliens visit us and are totally disappointed about how we kill each other with our primitive weapons and so on and so forth, and the leaders promise to fix that if he gives us more time, and we disarm and get rid of all our weapons and then declare world peace and crap. Then the aliens come back and laugh because they were disappointed that we sucked so much at violence, and he expected us to IMPROVE our weapons to be able to join their Empire. So they end up enslaving Earth or something.

I think this basically describes one Simpson's Episode

Even if there is life on other planets there's no reason to assume it will be intelligent or even multi-celled

The vast majority of life on earth is little single-celled critters; two of the three domains of life (and much of the one that plants and animals are in) are just bacteria and such, and of all the possible niches to fill, there's no reason to expect the "cognitive niche" to have a species occupying it at any point in the history of life on any given planet.

Steven Pinker used the analogy of elephants with trunks, conducting a program called the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Trunks (SETT). They are assuming that life, when it appears, will at some point naturally produce the trunk or something very like it, that wondrous instrument of manipulation. This appears ridiculous to us humans because we aren't chauvinistic about trunks, but somehow the very same assumptions do come naturally to us when thinking about intelligence/the mind.

The idea that any life we find will be feeble compared to our own is still humano-centric garbage undeserving of scientific merit.  As is the old 80's theory that if any life ever visited earth it would be peaceful because only peaceful life could advance to that level of technology without killing themselves, which is purely anti-human but clearly humano-centric thinking.
Yes, you're right! They're all out to get us!(and eat us) God damn aliens. But there's nothing to be afraid of, as long as we have Bruce Willis and Will Smith.

I'm in the mode of thinking that: It's not IF we find intelligent life, it's WHEN!

So I declare that we find ways of communicating with alien creatures (should they come to us or we come to them) in a peaceful manner before we're able to decipher eachother's languages. Perhaps with pictures or charades.

Besides, working out a language shouldn't be too hard.  They're all humanoid with wacky foreheads after all.  I'm sure we can come to a good understanding.

I personally think the aliens already passed by and saw nothing of interest.

'Twas a joke. I was hoping that the bad grammar would reveal this. But perhaps not.

Al Gore is a phenomenon that cannot be explained by any normal means. Some consider him to be an angel, sent from above. Others believe him to be a demon in disguise. But he was actually procedurally generated.

Al Gore did not invent the Internet.

The Internet invented Al Gore.
