SUCCESS! I was beginning to lose faith Victor.

Wait, wrong movie. Lemme start again.

SUCCESS! I finally won. Had 580 deaths when i did. Now i'm trying to unlock those 4 doors in the score room. Gotta check the Wiki...

I've been playing this lately.  Due to this badass fever I have, I can't really think coherently over a period of hours, so I can't play DF too well.  However, this roguelike/platformer is right up my alley.

I'm at 40 deaths, recently got the first shortcut dug, and have never made it out of the Jungle zone, so I've got a long way to go.  I rather like this game, it's just that the controls feel kind of "loose", even with a 360 controller.

"Loose"? I always thought the controls were extremely tight, and allowed for a great deal of control. It's only the occasionaly glitch here and there and screw me up.

Yeah. One time, i was at the end of a level trying to bomb a Bounty Hunter Shopkeeper (the ones that wait at the exits). The area around the exit was like this:

#
#   #
#   #2
# 1 ##
#X_###__

X = Exit
_ = Floor
# = Wall

The Shopkeeper's at 1, jumping around trying to get up to me. I'm hiding at 2 to wait in between shotgun bursts before jumping up and dropping a bomb in there. I pull out the bomb, and somehow, when the Shopkeeper jumped up and shot the wall i was behind, he actually HIT me. I don't know if it was his shotgun or his unarmed attack, but he managed to kill me from the other side of a wall!

YASD...

I've been fortunate enough not to get glitched yet.  Maybe "loose" is the wrong word, maybe "I'm a stupid newb" was the phrase I was looking for.  I just don't have the guy's movement down exactly.  A long-distance running jump onto a pillar with spikes on either side usually means that I'll be starting over.  But then, as I said, forty deaths, so I'm not that experienced yet.  I'll get that total to at least fifty today, I'd like to at least see the Ice World.  I've never owned a cape or a shotgun, or successfully robbed a shop.

I find that I get farther if I don't use the shortcut.  Finding a few crates of bombs or ropes and maybe having the option to buy spring boots or a climbing glove makes the jungle a lot easier.  I really need to learn how to use the altars to Kali.  Do I need to actually kill an enemy on the altar with my whip, or can I throw a dead enemy onto the altar, or can they be stunned, or what?

Man, I wish you could swap some objects into your inventory.  I'd like to be able to put my pistol or mattock away instead of having to juggle it with an idol or girl, or worse yet, a flare in a dark area.

Oh, I also got tired of Spelunky's music already, so I replaced it with the Indiana Jones theme from Raiders of the Lost Ark.  Perfect.

Throw/drop a stunned or dead enemy on the altar, then wait a few seconds.

In order of piety reward, the order is..

Cavemen
Man-Eating Plants
Damsels/Shopkeepers
Yeti
Cultists

Try throwing a stunned one if possible, you get double faith for it.

Also I would advise people to beware of crates, they seem pretty glitchy in current versions. I have died from "tripping" over them or being hit by them(from bombs) a number of times.

Actually, you only get 1.5 times the amount of faith.

Also, I've never tripped over a crate before, and I've gotten alot of crates. Can you explain better?

You missed one on the list, the least valuable one too, it's...

Just dont let crates fly around, they seem to glitch sometimes and if you touch them it can be instadeath.

Sounds like a mod someone needs to make for DF.

Best run yet.

Just had the best game of my life today.  I was fortunate enough to find 12 bombs in a crate on the first level, followed by finding a climbing glove in a crate on the second level, and killing a giant spider for his sticky bombs.  Then, in the jungle, I got to use Kali's altar productively for the first time, netting me some glasses and five extra life.  I also saw my first vampire in a "the dead are restless" jungle level, so I got my first cape.

I got to the Ice level for the first time, and went all the way through it.  I wish I could say it was due to skill, but it was mostly due to luck and the awesome combination of items I had.  I slaughtered the giant yeti just by throwing the unconscious bodies of his minions at him.

I finally died in the third Temple area with twelve life left, due to my own stupidity in placing a bomb in an incorrect spot.  If I hadn't been so stupid I think I might have gone all the way.  It makes up for the sting, though, this morning I'd never seen the Ice level and now I went through it like greased lightning.  Man, the cape+climbing glove is an incredible combination.

Sadly, good runs like this are far and few in between.
