Temple of Petra is a good idea Would take quite a bit of dinking around in photoshop to plan out though.

For the time being, however, I've decided to put this on the backburner. Mining everything took forever (about 12 dwarf years, all told) and I just don't have the will to play it at the moment. I'll probably come back to in a week or so, after christmas.

As far as how I went about mining it all out? Cave-ins where off most of the time since I needed the (slight) FPS boost. I just mined out each layer, stuck a support in, attached it to a lever, and then at the very end channeled around the 'edge', saved, turned on cave ins, and went back and pulled the lever. I then spent, oh, 10-15 minutes doing something else while DF processed the collapse. 90ish z-levels collapsing at once changes the words "Frames per second" to "Frames per hour"

I did this twice, one for each 'cliff'. Here is a shot of one of them a little while before I collapsed. I had three layers left.

but first make 20 different saves so you can do 20 different awsome things. like turning it into a gaint pressurized water spout. have like, 200 pumps pumping water into a large room with floodgates. open a line of flood gates in the wall so the pressure will make an arc of water that sheilds your town.

or make a copy of a telemarketers building

Water cannon on top floor, firing into a small alcove cut into the side just for Nobles. In fact, make that the Nobles' rooms; the open ends of several water cannons.

Use pumps to push pressurized water out, sweeping the nobles down to a watery demise, hundreds of feet below. If it'll work like that. If not...

Turn invaders on for the added fun, upload the map and hold a forum contest on cat/goblin/noble killing or some such.

Step 3: Place trade depot at bottom.
Step 4: Invite Elf traders.
