Combining a few of the ideas I read above.

Make a Face in the mountain (pretty much a basic face, eyes nose mouth.) make lava pumps to beable to pump said lava out of the mouth (which would be about 10 Z levels above the entrance) into a lava resivoir/moat. Nothing would seem more dwarvish here than a giant dwarf spewing tons of lava out of his mouth like magmatic nausea.

There's an init option to show such things on the embark map. Very helpful.

In other news, I have genned such a cliff side, and am going to do my damnedest to have a giant stone toad carved out of the rock somewhere if I can figure out how to make one out of squares...

Wait, i got a better idea than my previous one: cut the cliff in half, make one side a cutaway Underworld-challenge fortress, and the other half the crying dwarf face. Or just cut it in half, then set up two self sufficent warrior nations. It'd be better if you could have your dwarfs fight one another on command though.
