Code: [Select]
Action                   |  1- 3 |  4- 6 |  7- 9 | 10-12 | 13-15 | 16-18 | 19-21 || total

       Bread ration      |       |       |       |       |     6 |    10 |    10 ||    26

So if i understand well my Deep Elf without increased metabolism mutationhad to eat 184 times ?
Sounds a very lot considering i've got only 2 runes and is on my way for the 3rd.
And that despite i had a Staff of Energy since nearly the beginning (i got it from D:3 ! ) , i can't imagine what someone without a staff of energy will have to waste time eating then as Poison Clouds is very heavy in spell hunger (and considering how extremely useful it is, you really want to use it all the time)

Not to spoil your fun, but you don't actually need to make stashes these days.
Nothing wrong with enjoying them though, I used to as well.

what do you do when you fill up your 52 slots?
i make a stash with unused consumables/jewelry/wands so I can retrieve them later. best to have them in a central location so you don't have to travel as much.
maybe I don't use enough consumables, but I always make a stash. (And Lair:2 is about when I fill up my inventory entirely)

I need a base, not only because it's fun to have but as miauw62 said because it allow me to gather the useful items that are waiting on the floor of the whole dungeon back into a single location for easy access instead of having to navigate the whole thing if i decide to change my equipment in order to attack a specific branch requiring different set of resistances.
So certainly it's not that needed anymore, but still a very lot more convenient than having to move all other the dungeons/branches to change your equipment.

In other news, i ran into Mennas on Vaults:4 , i had to take the risk to fight him because i wanted a completely clean Vaults:4 to avoid any bad surprise when i'll had to retreat from the nasty Vaults:5 (and trying to lead him to Vaults:3 through stairs would be too much letting him strike me).
And keeping Mennas alive if i need to retreat is a bad idea, as you don't want to deal with him if you're not fully prepared.

Battle started, my servitor + tons of shadow creatures (and not weak ones as we're on Vaults ) fought the damn thing while i was moving a bit away to be able to cast more once i got mana back without having to deal with the silence area.
Unfortunately that huge numerical advantage proved to be nothing in front of Mennas that finally managed to kill the last of my legion with only half of his health gone while i was still too low on mana to even stand a chance (+ him moving to me would have silenced me anyways).

Wasted a potion of haste to run away as far as i could and rest.
Then i went back for round 2 while Mennas was back to full health.
This time the battle went better, Mennas seemed to start getting in big difficulty, i decided to wait at the corner of the screen to still seem him (so the summon nerf "can't attack what the player can"t see" wouldn't kill my army) and instead of launching more meath shield in hopeless fight (as even if he was in difficulty, Mennas was killing fast everything i launched), i kept my mana.

And when i judged there was too few of my troops left, i started to hammer Mennas from far with my Mystic Blast.
To my surprise it worked great, looks like the damage roll for once wasn't too much influenced by my bad luck and it actually wounded the enemy badly until

Decided to leave Mennas sword behind as a warning to anyone foolish enough to attack me (yeah i know Crawl isn't about roleplay and story, but still fun to do, like having a base :) )

Well it comes down to more or less the same in terms of "time lost", since you'll be running back to your stash whenever you find something nice that you don't need.
I just gave up on doing them once I realized that I never most of the stuff I stashed away, learned all the filtering options for the item search and they actually removed item weigth.

I just keep that stuff on me until I run out of slots, and THEN I run back.

also having a huge pile of stuff is just great :V

Jellies still eat items, don't they?

Lair:2 is one of the floor on which jellies do not spawn (i remember in the past when i thought Lair:1 was safe, only to have jellies spawning and eating my base there :D ).

There was Hive bottom in the past that was interesting as it was usually deeper than Lair in the dungeon, but the branch does not exist anymore.

Some people apparently use the Hell entrance too, as it does not spawn jellies, even deeper in dungeon so more interesting for endgame and post-end

Jellies don't spawn naturally in Lair:1, but they can use the stairs to get there while you're near them.

And yeah, Hell's entrance is also used, But you should be able to use any level where they don't spawn (and not neighbouring one) as your stash, now that monsters don't pick up the items you dropped :)

I think all floor items are now safe as long as you've seen them.

And even back when they weren't, I can't remember a time when a jelly ate something important of mine.
Always only heard stories about it from guy that knew a guy who knew a guy whose items had been eaten.

Well, it's usually enough to just put the items you would normally stash in the corner of rooms when your inventory is full :
Jellies' movement is totally random so they have really low chances to spawn and go for your items :)

I know a guy that is me that had this during the 0.8 tournament in 2011
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=84508.msg2284761#msg2284761

Fortunately i didn't gave up of disgust and 8 days later i got a win with a demigod earth elementalist, my first ever online win on a tourney, good memories (not the jelly one :D)
Since then i never put my items outside of the known jelly free zones, it may be very rare but it can happen. And Crawl being all about avoiding as much risk as possible, it's a good idea to not tempt your luck.

Yeah, it happened to a DEFE of mine way back too. It wasn't that bad (just all the potions) and really, one time out of hundreds of games is pretty negligible, but 1/500 is still worse odds than 0/500

Finally found my 3rd rune, the Vault one on the first big vault of the floor i visited :

The battle was very hard, at first i got the ambush under control by taking with me several guards and moving upstair, then blinking away and fighting.

But at some point one of the most annoying of the guard popped up and locked all the stairs !
Panic time.

I hasted myself with a potion and then ran while being shot from lots of side (thanks deflect missile i managed to survive the barrage) to the north passage (the only one i didn't see nasty monsters waiting).
I managed to get some distance thanks to the haste, then shot a poison cloud followed by summoned servitor and hasted my ally, finished my mana with some shadow creatures that gave me, thanks to luck, some strong and numerous enough allies, we fought back the horde of big bad monsters that was coming from the central zone (and probably from the 4 inner vaults due to the noise of the fight).

Fortunately thanks to the poison clouds of my servitor and more help from shadow creature when i could (and several wand shots, thanks to my high evocation to deal with annoying monsters coming from the top of the screen) i managed to survive and destroy the horde. on the screenshot you can see on the minimap the bunch of dark blue/green items lying down from the fallen on the passage north of the central stairs

Hasted servitor can be really amazing in such very hard situation. Now i hope to get more levels so i can finally learn a very big bad conjuration spell so my servitor will be able to deal death better, increasing my survivability.

I'm not that great on food, i had to rest so many time that i had to eat often on my perma stock and i've got +/- 10 steaks left, and with the high damage i'll have to rest between now and Zot, i hope to find much more stock for convenience, i always hated that food clock as i like to take my time.
