About my current character, i'm now wanting a strong spell but can only learn 1 from my spell levels left, i hesitate between

- Iron Shot , i can cast it reliably with 4% of fail, but i can get that into more fine control with a little more Earth skill, i have it at 6 "#" spellpower

- Crystal Spear (from Vehumet last gift), i can't cast it (96% fail and as i'm going to zot i doubt i'll get enough earth skill since then to cast it reasonnably), i have it at 6 "#" spellpower too.

(i thought about Orb of Destruction too, but as i rely a lot on Shadow Creatures too, it wouldn't be a good choice)
If i take Iron Shot, both me and my servitor can cast it, if i take Crystal Spear only my servitor will be able to do that, but he can do that hasted. I think my preference is then for Crystal Spear as i'm at equal spellpower for both and crystal spear is then more devastating even if i can't use it myself.

But there's the question of range that is bothering me a bit as both spell are rather short range, Vehumet increase my spell range of 1 tile, that means for me
Iron Shot is 6
Crystal Spear is 5

Are those ranges the same for my servitor ? or is the Vehumet bonus not applied and it's even shorter range for him ?

I didn't knew that, very annoying as i'll have to grind to get more earth skill then until i get the thing under 50% fail :/
... hoping to keep enough perma food for zot (my stock go down so fast due to how much i have to rest after each battle, i wonder how it would have been without my staff of energy).

I'm currently playing a GrEE with Shadow Creatures and Spellforged Servitor. I have OoD and Iron Shot, but my servitor mostly spams OoD. It hasn't hit any of my summons yet. A hasted, LCS spamming servitor is very fun. I wish Sif would finally give me that spell.

And i thought 184 was a lot as i was hungry a bit too often after each autoexplore, i found that annoying already.
But i would have just stopped playing if it had been as often as for you to reach such number, the exaggerated food game is definitively the part i have no fun with in Crawl.

Anyways, on one of the vaults of Vaults:5 , i found this :




base delay is 2 times the one of a morningstar , i wonder if that damage can compensate in gameplay

Was clearing a few of the Depths with only Earth magic training enabled in my skills , and got 8 levels of it just from what i did in Depths (lots of powerful monsters)

And good news, is that thanks to those 8 levels of Earth Magic, i'm now at 47% of failure only (from the 96% i had without any earth magic skill), my servitor can then now use it :)



The only bad is that it has a really low range, meaning that for the servitor to be able to use it, the danger much be a bit too close for comfort.
Can't say much about the spear damage, as we hammer monster from far usually so when they're close they're already hurt.
But it must be better than spamming only mystic blast :)

The dark maul is more for fun than anything : a crushing +9 Giant Mace deals more damage on many enemies.
And using the dark maul without a really high M&F skill means that the enemies will hit you many times each time you try to hit them.

And about LCS and Iron Shot : LCS is not useful if you want to win your game with 3 runes.
As your Servitor can cast it, it may be better than normally, but I remember reading it is less accurate than Iron shot, and with the shorter range, it really means you're gettign damaged easily.
Even worse, if you want to cast it, the hunger cost and high failure rate mean you need really high skill in both conjur, earth and spellcasting; skill that you won't have in defense.

Accuracy is a big factor between killing something before it kills you and giving the time to that something to kill you because you miss all your shots.

That's why i finally decided to go with the spear because of this :

I can't find any information about this on google, i wish crawl wasn't obfuscating all those stats information that are so useful in other RL.

I decided to use my last amnesia scroll to forget the battlesphere and learn iron shot, so i have it + the spear available for my servitor and i can cast iron shot (reliably, unlike the spear).
I ceased to use battlesphere a long time ago, can't afford the mana into it as i need all of it for servitor+haste+additional shadow creatures and keep some in case something bad happens unexpectedly, battlesphere would eat 5 of that mana, too much at that point of the game.

The servitor is pretty accurate with Iron Shot/LCS and OoD. I finished the game with only Iron Shot, since OoD kept crashing into walls. LCS' accuracy is tied to spellpower, iirc. It definitely does a lot more damage than Iron Shot, but it won't very noticeable until you're fighting demon lords.

I found a potion of experience in the depth , brought me to level 24
Here my character finally found the way to the realm of Zot


I think he can win, he has the potential for it, having survived several very though battles (sometime managed to flee with very few health) unless stupid bad luck suddenly happen.
But not the potential for postgame, too far from max skills nearly required to cast something like firestorm or similar due to my focus on many magic schools that were needed by diverses spells.

Message History

Still sad that in the whole game i found 0 demon whip, i saw many demon weapons but not a single whip version, because it is conveniently a demon whip that was needed in a trove.

The fun anecdote is that i accidentally went into a Ziggurat (i found 2) , because i was expecting a message telling me what how much money was needed to enter that ziggurat, and there was no message, i directly went in, i guess that's something new to have Ziggurat for free, not bad as they were nearly out of price in the past in case you were buying stuff in shops, you could usually say goodbye to zigs
Though i had no intention to get inside and was happy they didn't removed the portals to get out :D

Looking on the events logged in the dump file, looks like i got several very near death situations

Interesting Zot design, a central building that was closed, and in that central building a lots of yellow draconians , lots of jellies and several acid blobs


Nice battle to have when you get a servitor and shadow creatures.
I had to run away back to the portal at some point in order to get my mana back

Once i cleared the area, the center was housing the 3 stairs down, it was protected by several oklob plants, nothing really hard if you managed to beat the previous defenders that were much more dangerous than the oklobs


A bit annoying tough, as it makes distance between it and the portal, not nice when you have to run away with the orb and demonic things spawn around
