Watch Mahouka as a palette cleanser anime.
Is this bullying?
I think it's sexual harassment.

I finally got around to checking out the first episode. I'm in the process of watching, but I swear literally all of these characters were in Sword Art Online at some point.

Holy shit, I'm not just imagining the incest subplot, right?

My onii-sama would never allow an incest subplot.

I watched like five minutes of the first episode and think that'd be "hallucinating" rather than "imagining" if it weren't really there.

Of course, Twin is neither man nor woman but an unholy eldritch abomination like every other Bay12er. The difference is they hide it better.

Anime: "Holy shit, I'm not just imagining the incest subplot, right?"

What I find odd about the incest plotlines coming into anime right now (not that they haven't existed... but there is a recent surge) is it seeeeems to be a sort of follow the leader... or rather because some other more successful story/anime/manga/show did a incest plotline well... Anime can just sort of have it and carry all the same connotations.

I say this only because of the sheer quality difference between incest plotlines. What SHOULD be a very... temperamental subject... is treated as accepted in others.

We were all wondering if someone was going to bring up relative quality of incest plotlines, but I don't think anyone wanted to go far enough to say "well, I thought the incest plotline in x was done better than that in y, but the sister character was a lot more believable in z" so, thanks neonivek, theonivek.

No, no, see, it's okay in that one because they're only first cousins that live like brother and sister while calling each other the same, remember?  ::)

Look it has more to do with the fact that in, say, Wixoss... It is handled as Taboo and it made strides to put you into the mind of the person. It treats the subject matter with the gravity it deserves.

Versus say... Hand Shakers...

Where they are just incest pedophilic lovers (In that the Sister is a sixteen year old teenager... and the brother... is a prepubescent boy) and that is really as far as it goes to flesh it out. You are just sort of meant to accept it.

---

What I am saying is... I THINK the low quality (outside porny mc porno) might have to do with successful works sort of... creating a cliché to the point where it is a sort of "Yeah yeah, you know the deal. We don't have to give it the reverence"

Seriously you're missing out. I recommend watching up to episode 7 to get the full Mahouka experience. Although the bit after that has a few choice scenes (the scene about getting on the bus is the last really lulzy one).

It's enjoyable for the meta-stupidity and the fact that the MC is a clear marysue/author's proxy (same initials and simalar syllable structure to both names). It was originally a webnovel written by a teenager. I don't recommend watching all of it, but later hero abilities include flying, insta-healing of all wounds, raising the dead at will, and atomic laser-eyes that can destroy any city on Earth on a whim (such as they insulted his sister or school or some similarly important thing). Plus if it's a skill or ability that some MC in another series has, he probably has it or gains it in a later book. Meanwhile the whole thing has a strong whiff of "I showed those school bullies, and girls who ignored me, by become genius superman and getting all the girls running after me, but I was too cool to care".

Ahh Mahouka the greatest Unintentional Parody Anime/manga ever created.

Please tell me they are still making episodes! and that the book/show never normalizes!

"I showed those school bullies, and girls who ignored me, by become genius superman and getting all the girls running after me, but I was too cool to care".

My favorite part is that no matter how... not disadvantaged he is... People treat him like he is practically disabled.

Not long now, a Mahouka movie is hitting the cinemas in mid june.

I doubt it ever normalizes because the author is completely clueless when it comes to normal story construction (even by bad writing standards). It could well be the most pure distillation of cliched fanfic style writing ever to get turned into anime. He has the power fantasy finales to each arc, and lots of power fantasy stuff in the middle where the hero saves the day, along with the hero being generally awesome and loved by women near the start of each arc. It's so well balanced!

As this review points out Mahouka is terrible on every level, he means every level. It's unique because some shows have a lot of bad ideas, but they're a mixed bag, with some stuff that could have been cool. but Mahouka is like a fractal where the closer you peer the more incongruous bad ideas you find, and it never levels out. The anime is like what you would get if you did an unironic adaptation of My Immortal, except i'm sure My Immortal was satirical while this is serious.

My face lit up with glee when I saw in a screen cap that there is literally a scene where our hero breaks someone's ribs... and THEN proceeds to tell the parafreekenmedics how to do their job.
