I'unno, I don't think there's a shortage of girls in sports anime, just that there's a shortage of girls with any character beyond "moeblob".
Though the whole lack of depth thing often applies to the male cast as well, so it's not a unique problem.

Sports are gender-segregated in the real world however, so trying for gender-balance in a sports anime is always going to be a losing proposition. It either means you constantly switch focus between male to female sports leagues, or you include a large number of characters who don't actually play the sport in question. Either way, that's bad news for writing a good focused story.

I am not really expecting a female character to jump into Haijime No Ippo and give Ippo a run for his money.

I'll just hold onto Aim for the Ace where they did acknowledge that men are better Tennis players. Yet that wasn't license to treat them as lesser players by the writers.

Well, I spent the day watching Apreggio of Blue Steel.

I was expecting something mildly okay. I was happily surprised when it delivered a bit more than that.

Oh, fuck, Jesus... I just learned today that Anna's (from Shimoneta) voice actor, Miyu Matsuki, died from lymphoma... I just learned that when I was wondering when the second season was coming out, I wasn't expecting something hard and heavy like that to kill my Shimoneta S2 hype.

Wow the GaoGaiGar blu-ray remaster cleared up the footage so much. The difference in the opening alone is magnificent.

On a different note, how do you folks feel about the sales this season? DEEN's B-team is topping the charts (albeit with kind of low numbers for a chart-topper) and KyoAni is utterly flopping, below a robot yuri show on shoestring budget by a studio that only made one other TV anime.

Watched a couple of episodes of Ajin because it sounded interesting. And it is interesting. My only gripe so far is the aesthetic - it's a sort of washed-out palette and everything is CG. I need to take a break every so often to avoid headaches, but the story is good enough that I don't mind.

It is so cheesy I think I love it. Also it is kind of a condensed combination of the original and crystal.

I completely forgot how many tunes from the original were actually pretty good.

My favorite character? Zoicite... DAMN is that one amazing performance. Also one of the few characters who actually just goes for it.

Been meaning to watch Princess Tutu anyways, getting linked to this just pushed it up my list. That's some fucking impressive editing work, and it was made in 2006.

Every week i'm impressed at durarara's escalations. The plot ramps up constantly but never gets incoherent, though it does get insane and overcomplicad. Today's was something to behold and it's only the 4th episode of the season. When it's over anyone who hasn't seen it should marathon it all start to finish.
