You know... Dragon Ball Z was never a very serious show

But I think now it has officially moved into being a Comedy Action Series. Instead of an action series with strong comedic elements.

Which out of all the times I ever seen it... This is probably the best.

Most times when series end up more comedic it is because they are amplifying whatever comedic elements were there in the first place, which is often just a nod or a joke here and there and are now recentered around comedy.

While Dragon Ball Super (a self-parody to admit) takes what comedic elements were already there and just uses them all the time now.

I'm checking out Utawarerumono from 2006 because it's got a new season out. Doing a thread search someone labelled the original show "Generic harem trash" but seriously that couldn't be further from the truth about this show. I'm wondering whether that person actually watched the show, or whether they're just judging it from the fact it's based on a visual novel?

Basically, Utawarerumono is low-fantasy (fantasy races but no magic), with the focus on warfare and nation-building. Sure, there are a few cute girls (in a much larger cast of male characters), but it's almost completely lacking in fanservice, ecchi or "harem antics". So, might be something people would enjoy if they're looking for something like that that's not drowning in fanservice.

I've heard the sequel one has been going downhill from some friends of mine who watch it though. Apparently it's barely anything like it's associated game because they rushed them both out at the same time in such a way that the director wasn't given time to actually play through the game and see it's full story and just went off in his own direction or something. From what you're describing it sounds like the sequel is much more lewd as well.

Just watched Evangelion 3.0. Well, that was depressing. However, I'm not too affected by emotions in films, so I'm fine.

Asuka is even more tsundere, Kaworu is Griffith levels of gay for the main character, enjoyable music and animation, the beginning and the end were pretty badass, so not a bad show. Just... shit, man, even 40k is less grimdark.

Also this Rei had no personality whatsoever, so that's a bad point.

Finished Grisaia no Kajitsu the other day. It was... different, certainly. Apparently the ecchi stuff was toned down from the VN, which can only lead me to believe that the VN is actually a psychologically scarring pornfest.

From what I've heard they also cut a huge amount of story content when compared to the VN as well (as compared to cutting in things like F/SN, where what was cut mostly just consisted of monologuing on magic systems :P). So I'm guessing it's one of those cases where there's a lot more of the adult stuff in the original story, but the fact that there is a lot more other things in-between the increased amounts has a somewhat dampening effect on the impact and stops it from becoming a total psychologically scarring pornfest :P.

I wouldn't say it's a psychologically scarring pornfest, although both things on their own are true. However, almost (barring one from what I remember) none of the psychological stuff is even related to sex and it's more about other stuff which is relatively interesting to read about. Most of the sex scenes where just Yuuji doing the heroine of that route. I found the backstories for each heroine to be the most interesting part of each route. Especially with their parents, because I freakin' love family relationships and drama in works. This is something I think Yumiko's route had done very well.

The first Grisaia game took me about as long as FSN to read. The common route was way too long, and the heroine routes themselves didn't focus on what I'd like to see myself. The translation itself was super good and one of the main reasons I wanted to read the thing, but what ended up being my other favorite aspect was the main character himself, Yuuji. I find it ridiculous how many harem VNs I've played where the only character I have a huge fondness for is the male lead. Especially in the Makina route, which was my favorite because it focused on Yuuji. My second favorite bit would be Angelic Howl in Amane's route, because while I don't really care for any of the heroines, the huge NVL section in her backstory reads so well I had trouble stopping.

Route opinions:

Makina > Amane > Yumiko > Sachi > Michiru

Heroine opinions:

Yumiko = Sachi > Amane > Michiru = Makina

I'm still pretty hyped to read the two sequels...at some point.

So I think I'm figuring Grimgar somthing something out. It feels like some wierd slice of life type of deal but instead of yet another highschool setting we actually have a somewhat interesting one, if only because I don't think it's been really done before. I really like it to be honest, it's pacing is different and the action, while present isn't really the focus, it's more a thing that happens every now and then, and between that you have these kids basically who are kinda lost and trying to figure out how to function in this strange world they've been thrown into. Kinda relatable at the core of it really.

Other than that, IBO is still going strong, even with not that much giant mecha action happening in the last couple of episodes, but next one seems to be a biggie, somebody is bound to die methinks

However, been hammering through Kuroko no Basketball.

Yeah, Grimgar's a pretty interesting slice of fantasy life. So far it's doing it fine, not pretending to be something it's not and isn't all that ambitious. They tried making the fan service reactions be realistic, however I only found them dramatic and rather anti-male. I'm half thinking that one of the females has felt some kind of abuse from men from the past, though that is highly unlikely and I do hope that isn't used, as it wouldn't be all that interesting, honestly.

Kuroko no Basket is pretty dope. Still can't believe I enjoy sports anime.

Don't forget Boku dake ga Inai Machi guys, I'm calling that for show of the season. It hasn't set a foot wrong yet. The only issue is that it's only 12 episodes long, so I'm pretty sure it's going to get a split season or something.
