Basic no-personality highschool boy recruits a club full of magical moe highschool girls to hunt phantoms who appear at random to annoy people. Later, they fight an evil conspiracy. Forgettable utter shit in other words.

I dunno, I enjoyed the first episode. The show's at least a little bit self-aware, and pokes fun at various anime tropes. But then it proceeds to follow through with the exact things it was poking fun at moments prior, so YMMV.

And it could be construed as extra-lazy writing, since you don't have to expend any effort setting up the "wow! that sort of thing only happens in anime" "joke", it's not actually funny, and it's just additional time-filler material.

It's only satire if you subvert the trope in some original way.

Dual Masters was a Wizards of the Coast attempt to market a card game in Japan. After Magic made it there it kindof lost its purpose and was discontinued at some point last year.

"Logic" unfortunately doesn't mean any sort of "logic": in this series "Logic" is a magical energy field which is the energy source for monsters and also powers super punches and the like. So, your basic organization of super-hero teenagers who fight monsters from another dimension. Oh, and your Logic-powers disspate when you turn 18 so all the heroes have to be schoolkids by definition. And in another unfortunate turn of Engrish, the monsters are known as "Foreigners", so you have dialogue warning residents not to go out into the street because there's a "Foreigner" and "The Foreigner has not yet been secured, please continue to be watchful".

I'm sorry, but a show where kids use logic to make foreigners leave sounds like it would be hilarious. (Well, it sounds like one of those things that you would laugh about watching and then feel really guilty that you found it that funny. )

It is more that pointing out how you are being lazy doesn't make your show not lazy.

One Punch Man points out all the lazy aspects of their manga/webcomic/anime but the difference is well
A) They do something with it and use it for story development.
and more importantly
B) One Punch Man is better written, deeper, and more consistent then what it is a parody of.

The cliché isn't so much a cliché but rather it has been an observation that many people try to hide their incompetence with self-awareness. So people have started to find it tiring.

People still do find an honest to goodness parody to be enjoyable. Yet the problem is that most parodies are trying to be worse then what they are a parody of, rather then being a stylish suck like say... Excel Saga was.

Also now I see why Neo keeps saying it's gotta, gotta be parody yet isn't. If they made a One Punch Man equivalent of this sort of thing I'm pretty sure it'd go exactly the same.

The Greatest Parody manga ever made... that isn't a parody.

I honestly cannot think of a single thing that would change if it was a real parody. Frankly I am astonished it isn't beloved by the manga community for being a great unintentional parody or hilarious train wreck.

Whoops, Vibrace out of the wazoo. Well, it is Mining Base Defense anyway; he's supposed to do that.

Our hero gets ready to fight the beetle... Wait. What's that weapon you're using...?

Are you seriously fucking with me SEGA?

His partners are using low-level 9* to 10* weapons, and he is using a lowly 4* to battle with a spongy boss?

For those not familiar with terminologies, rarities 7-9* are considered common rare, and 10* is uncommon rare. 11-12* weapons are alright, but tend to be rare, and there are even more powerful 13*...

In terms of his position in battle, using a lowly 4*, the very first weapon to appear in Cirnopedia's list, is the equivalent to using a wooden sword against the Eye of Cthulhu. Or a spoon to kill Vlad the Impaler. Or, the very first lvl 1 class weapon you start with in every MMO ever, against a boss considered to be high threat and have so much health. His weapon of choice, too, is also considered a backup weapon, with no particular strengths aside from speedy PP (Special Attack points) recovery.

Are you seriously fucking kidding with me, SEGA?

Afterwards, our noob protagonist takes a wonderful montage tour around Seiga Academy (seriously, that's what it is called.), and we are finally greeted by an overhead shot of its courtyard...

Wait. Doesn't that seem familiar to you guys?

Our protagonist enters, and he is greeted by a not!sameface guard. Hooray!


...

Shit, our protagonist doesn't have his ID! Guard becomes judgmental and tells the poor kid that he's a suspicious lad, when suddenly...

So... our hero thanks the girl for saving his ass in explaining why he misplaced his ID...



She's appealingly... plain.

Afterwards, our hero proceeds to check out his ID to the turnstile, and keeps explaining to the guard he's not suspicious.

Is that so much of a big deal in SEGAC university?


Then Itsu-what'sit, our hero, explains why he was late to his friend Kouta.



It seems very apparent that Izumi is well-liked, has good friendships, good mind for knowledge, is a Student-Council President and plays a game to boot! Seems like Waifu material.

skip a few scenes, we have our focus back at Kota and Itsuki. Some small talk, onee-sans and cookies, and some friend talks about wanting to play with Kota. Itsuki asks what that was about and...


You're in an academy sponsored by Sonic the Hedgehog, and you don't really know what that game is? I think you enrolled in the wrong academy.

Kota - "You know, if you're not playing online games in this day and age, you'll get left behind."

Itsuki - "Yeah, right. It's just a game, right?"

You're fucking wrong mate. You're in an anime about PSO2.

Indeed, after that, fast forward to when he gets home, and our ordinary student gets recruited by the student council. Gets told to meet them at Six o'clock for something important. Gee, I wonder what.

And, I'm going to spare myself from the pain of having to take screenshots, so I'll fast track a bit and Izumi still gets a lot of fangirls over her... Also fanboiz.


Beautifully... plain looks.

Then an opening speech is given at the auditorium and- wait wasn't this anime about the online game why are we getting college life.

Then we are given painstaking descriptions over how Izumi rocks at everything and looks good doing things... yeah I'm calling it. Mary Sue.

We are then treated to Itsuki suddenly being thanked for helping people in their 1st year practice match, which is all good, but I can't help but notice in the background discussions...




Why are those significant...?

Well, for one, it obviously foreshadows a tie-in with the game PSO2 itself and its upcoming content:




Yeah, the gamers in Seiga Academy are playing a game they will eventually star in. Let that sink in to you for a bit.

Wait, it's already Six o'clock. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-



Our hero arrives late, and he gets chastised for being late for the important meeting. "You think this is a joke?"

Because of his tardiness, he gets booed on by everyone, but Izumi Rina declares that it's not up for debate: The new guy is now the VP for student council affairs. Yay! Hooray for +20 generic points! Spend it well on your talents!





You fkin bitch. What could be more important than playing a game? I guess, nothing. The game rules. It plays well. Kinda like monster hunter and some grindy exp game made love with each other and such. Then eventually, you'll get all the rares most people now consider junk, unless it's made of 13*s.


Look, an unapologetic pokedex entry! We're at the middle of this horrible episode! Yay!


In PSO2, you get to play a character under the employ of the ARKS, where you get to kill Darkers, who seek to destroy all of space by converting shit into negative photons and create monstrous head leaders called Falzes, or alternatively, Dark Falz, or Phalluses. Pick whichever. In ARKS, your role is practically Space Greenpeace by murdering the shit out of things, kind of like a reverse PETA for the sake of preserving natural habitats, and serving as galactic explorers and police.

Basically, murderous treehugging philanthropists.
