Does anyone else get irrationally annoyed when whoever subbed the anime decides to put the names backwards?

Because I have enough trouble trying to keep track of names in English, and ye gods is it nightmarish when I get confused over what name is what and half the characters have the same name in a different place.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

... which backwards are you talking about, here? Because last name-first name is often the right direction for what they're translating, and backwards would be, well, doing the reverse.

Either way definitely doesn't bother me, though. Got used to it pretty easily, same as with the whole reading direction thing vis a vis manga.

So I have finally finished the manga of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Vento Aureo. It had some neat ideas and the brutal gang thing was an interesting change of pace, but I feel like it was a bit weak overall. The story wasn't very interesting, the main character felt a bit bland heroish, and most of the other characters didn't feel as noteworthy and fleshed out as prior JoJos either.
Spoiler: Major Spoilers (click to show/hide)

I've started in on Part 6: Stone Ocean, but I'm not liking it much so far. It feels like the lesson he learned from Vento Aureo was to go EVEN DARKER!!! I suspect that's going to be less of an interesting and novel direction to explore in and more of some other, not as good series with Stands in it.

Depends on which way is "backwards." I prefer them listed Japanese-style, ie Smith Frank, so it's usually seeing it translated to Frank Smith that bugs me.

Ah... I have no idea what the anime's like, for what that's worth. I've been mostly reading LNs lately, and generally gravitate more towards that and manga than actually animated stuff anyway.

And yeah, game likes... Legendary Moonlight Sculptor and Ark are both pretty great, if you're going the LN route (though a manga for the former has started up, interestingly enough). You can definitely tell they're both riding some (somewhat similar) cultural tropes fairly hard, but they're still pretty neat.

Seconding this one. LMS is great for numerous reasons, but one of the big ones is that it avoids the usual path of either trapping the characters in the game world or making everything important happen in-game.

Yeah Vento Aureo has some issues. The most frustrating part is that we can't tell how much of those issues are legitimate because it's translation is really sub-par and makes some of the dialogue more confusing/lacking the emotion it's suppose to have. Which is probably why Giorno comes off a lot more charismatic in the Purple Haze Feedback LN.

As I understand it some parts of the Vento Aureo translation are just made up.

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. Japanese-style is less confusing.

I skipped Part 5 after reading Part 4, because I heard the translation was poor.

I read a lot Part 6 last week during my very long airplane flights. I think I'm over half done.

I kind of like it a lot. I'm not sure it'll surpass Diamond is Unbreakable, but I think it's still pretty gooood.

The first volume is weird. I don't think Araki knew exactly where he was going.

But man, after you first see
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
and everything onward is quite fun to read.

I would recommend JoJo's Colored Adventure, because they finished the whole series in color. And it looks great in color too.

I just watched Nerawareta Gakuen. About Psychic Highschoolers. In all honesty the psychic portion seemed like it was the billing, clinching element to draw in the audience, but it barely had any impact on the story at all. No, it was the Highschoolers part that it focused on. Specifically, dumb juvenile stupid highschool romance, the movie couldn't get enough of it.

This is the story in three easy parts:

1. Character setup
2. Shit happens ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3. Credits roll, wheel in the sappy vocalist. Let her earn her bread for the day.

Some nice visuals, but wouldn't recommend.

Yup, that had some amazing colours and secnery porn, but the story was terrible. It wasn't even that it focused on the highschoolers that was the problem. If they'd at least had interesting characters that would have been something, but the thing is just a mess which doesn't know what it wants to be.

It kind of reminds me of Loups=Garous, except with Loups=Garous you'll be cursing at the screen for different reasons, not from the mind-numbing boredem that Nerawareta Gakuen's lack of events induces.

I'm sorry to interrupt, but here's a quick question:

I'm watching Durarara. I made it through 17 episodes, and I think I'm going to drop it, and there is one thing I hope to see, that is why I kept watching this far. So tell me.
Will I see more Simon Brezhnev in further episodes?
There will be a variety of simon.

Related, the new season of Durarara is really great.
