Hey, I got a 56 year old interested enough that they watched Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion with me, as well as Baccano!, Cowboy Bebop, and the first two seasons of Higurashi on their own. Not everyone over an arbitrary age barrier is automatically close-minded and culturally stagnant, etc. etc.

Yeah, my parents watch anime with me all the time.  I went to watch Pacific Rim with my 62-year-old dad and he was so moved that he cried.

In my experience it is because they find it all "too silly".

Then again my Father was an interesting case. He watched the new Dr. Who and complained that it was very silly and said how the old Dr. Who was better.

When I told him Dr. Who was always this silly he didn't believe me. Oddly enough when I actually proved it, he then decided he didn't like Dr. Who in spite previously being a fan.

Though that is something... what Anime would I crossover with Dr. Who?

My grandparents watch Studio Ghibli movies. Gramps likes the scary violent ones (Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke).

So I started watching Gintama, I can say that it's just my kind of silly nonsense, they could be less lazy with some of the action shots but eh, it's only a secondary thing here it seems.

My dad seemed interested in watching DBZ with me until he realized the fight scenes were going on for episode upon episode, and he's well into his 60's. Now I'm wondering if he might have stuck around if I had been watching Kai at the time. Did they cut the fights down to a length that a normal human being could stand?

Also, I think pretty much everybody likes Studio Ghibli movies, no matter what age. If not, you better check to see if they have a metal skeleton because they are obviously a robot.

I have a grandfather who dislikes animation of all kinds, so he probably wouldn't like Studio Ghibli movies. The biggest reason is because he's losing his hearing and can't read the lips of animated characters.

Studio Ghibli is pretty much a universal constant, yeah. I even convinced my father to watch Princess Mononoke and he admitted to enjoying it after the credit roll. For the record, he's like this when it comes to anything he thinks of as being pointless or silly (read: doesn't like), except with less rage and more snark:

Hopefully none, as it would likely create some sort of fan-wank singularity. Though Tenchi Muyo! might be an interesting one.

Watched the first 5 episodes of the 08th MS Team with my cousin today. Twas quite an interesting watch cause of the whole, being about the grunts instead of the ace pilots, thing. The slowness delt kinda weird but overall we liked it quite a bit!

5 episodes in is where it actually starts to get really good for most of the rest of the series, which includes probably the single greatest Gundam moment I've yet seen.
