Hi, i am new to this forum, and this is my first post. (Is there a thread where new members can introduce themselves?)
I like Anime. My favourite is "Fist of the North Star" and i own pretty much everything of it on DVD. The 1984 Series, the 1986 Movie, the 3 part OVA, the 5 new Movies, the TV Series regarding Raoh.

Ah, yes Hokuto no Ken is oldie but goodie. I tried to watch all the episodes but couldnīt do it . Nevertheless it was pretty nice, although not exactly my cup of coffee.

Just finished watching Tekkonkinkreet. Awesome piece honestly, so much style and fun. The last chapter (or part or season or whatever) was rather creepy but still nice in the end

I have that but it won't play on my computer for some reason because it says it's Region 0 or some shit. Shame, I kind of wanted to see it.

Also I finished Eden of the East today. I was not disappointed and in fact want to purchase the movies that followed the end of the series. After that or somewhere in between I might want to procure copies of Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, Polyphonica, Bamboo Blade and Pani Poni Dash because those have been on my list for a while now. Luckily Rightstuf has them and Amazon might have those last two for cheaper.

Yeah its easy to not take something serious that is more 80s than Stallone.
But i enjoy FotNS genuinly.

Some other Anime i really like: Ninja Scroll (the movie), and Street fighter (also the movie, i know there are more than one, but there is one thats really good).

So, I watched Rebuild 3.33. By certain means.

For those of you who haven't seen it or haven't spoiled yourself, all I can say is Your Mileage May Vary Up To Eleven. The second Rebuild basically said "We will be nothing like the series starting... NOW!". The third Rebuild is essentially "Aww, did you miss the psychological trauma of the series? We're just going to sneak that back in. Abruptly. Oh, also, be prepared for your mind to be boggled at the shit we just pulled, like, six times over." There is only the very smallest semblance of the series left, and that's because Kaworu shows up (which isn't spoilers because cmon).

Also more support for that one theory about how everything is all linked together.

I'm okay with it because I'm basically holding out everything for Four, because I think it's going in a certain direction that I don't think I'll be upset with. However, I know at least one person who was so pissed that she had to stop watching 40 minutes in. She got back to it because she's a big fan of NGE but she still hates it. She was also somewhat disappointed I didn't hate it as passionately as she does. Like I said, I'm holding out for the fourth movie to make my decisions regarding how I feel. The only things I can say that I hate right now is that they force-feed you basically all of the backstory and things that are happening unlike the series which required a lot of active thought and analysis into character, and

Yui's maiden name was changed to Ayanami. Yeah, they pulled another Shikinami. I don't think there's been a change in her character, but that last-name dynamic with Gendo was such an important part of understanding the depth at which he operated, and it feels like it cheapened it by changing it.

Gendo is... frankly, he's a pathetic, weak, spineless, abusive shithead, and his taking of his wife's name was supposed to show that in a certain sense.  That he was a complete and total nobody.  Through the peculiar lens of Japanese customs, whatever.  I'm really furious that they did this.

IMHO, Gendo is the ballsiest character of them all. He's willing to screw over everyone and everything, from the absolutely most powerful to the little people, to get what he wants and he's damn good at it. He certainly is abusive (uses emotional positive and negative reinforcement to orchestrate the actions of children to suit his needs) and he is absolutely a shithead for it. I guess that the "pathetic, weak, spineless" part you're talking about comes from his hangups over Yui and how he doesn't even has his own ambition, really, everything is about Yui (that is, instead of picking some other goal more suited to an ego-maniacal manipulative mastermind, he decides to screw everything and get her back because he's lonely). And yeah, Yui's maiden name being Ikari and Gendo adopting it was to prompt people to go "Woah, this guy just completely hopeless."

I'm also really furious about it. It takes away so much. Shikinami was sort-of bearable compared to this (although it's even more bearable now given certain dialogue that supports the continuity theory), because although her character was changed she was still kind of the same and it was just a label. Ikari being a label is the point, though.

Oh, also, this is probably the most depressing version of Eva. Things are worse. Things are a lot worse for everyone. You don't see all of it on screen, but if you think about it, shit is really worse.

Yeah, what I'm trying to talk about is how Young Gendo is weak in the same way that Shinji is weak.  Their eyes are drawn exactly the same way for this reason--they've both got this "I'm a hurt animal and I'mma hurt you" feeling to them.  He may be ballsy, but he's not doing things in a strong way, he's lashing out.  Reactive, not active.

Besides, Ikari means "rage."  He picks something up from Yui... his purpose.  Rei having the last name Ayanami makes sense.  It's the name of a warship, she's a weapon.

I'm okay with Shikinami, though I downright dislike Mari's inclusion.

Yeah, I think we're pretty much on the same page concerning Gendo and Yui.

Mari's inclusion became much more palatable for me with the third movie, but again, YMMV Up To Eleven due to some of the things that happen. If you don't want it to be minorly spoiled then don't read this next bit, but instead of Rei and Kaworu being parallel characters, it's much more like Kaworu and Mari being parallels (and including Shinji and Asuka as sort of parallels to go along with it). I have no evidence to believe that Mari is, you know, extra-special like Kaworu, but she acts in a very supporting role and manages to establish herself as an appropriate character of the Rebuild series without hogging everything. She did hog a good bit in the second movie, but that was to introduce her rather than to replace Asuka. We were force-fed a bit of her in the second movie, but she's very much out of the limelight in the third movie, and I felt that it was done in an appropriate fashion.

Other than Mari being totally pointless (again) I quite liked Rebuild 3.33.  Maybe it's just because they finally actually explained something 26 episodes and 3.5 movies in.

I wish I had a bit more control over Junpei, if only to freaking grab him and force him to not be a retard that walks headlong into an obvious axe to the arm. That bad end failure was on you buddy, I gave you every meaningful decision I could make.

But it would seem that successive playthroughs are not only encouraged by the structure of the branching story, but mandatory to get what I'm guessing will be the bestest ending.

If I just had a little bit more time to waste I'd definitely be doing a rewatch of the original series, because I'm feeling the need for some more asshole-on-asshole action.

Yeah.  It's a bit annoying because you have to replay a bunch of rooms.  They fix that for Virtue's Last Reward/ Good People Die at least.
