As a tip for you all...

Don't watch 160 episodes of an anime in a week. It actually kills the experience.

Did you literally do nothing but sit at your computer watching anime? Because assuming 8 hours/day for sleep and an average of 25min per episode, you'd literally be spending more time watching anime than sleeping, or all other non-sleeping activity combined. Hwæt!?

I win. You are all incorrect.

edit: alternate me winning, with more piano
Do I win now?
No, I am more winner.

I really want to like it, but the guy is just so -bad-. At least the guy with the yellow vuvuzela is really good and trying, the red one is just monotone and the lyrics aren't monotone.

I just finished Angel Beats!

I nearly shed manly tears.

Honestly I am starting to think "Manly tears" was always a joke. In that all tears are the same.

Honestly I am starting to think "Manly tears" was always a joke. In that all tears are the same.

It was originally derived from the fact that at some point it became the standard for "manly" characters to never shed tears. Manly tears subverted this by having badass "man's man" types tear up during emotionally charged moments, often after or during a passionate speech. Works started playing with this (particularly ones with hot-blooded manly type characters) by having the same sort of character burst into tears at the drop of a hat. We've come full circle from "people cry" to "real men never cry" to "real men cry when it's important" and back to "people cry".

So yes. Tears are the same. The trope comes from the fact that for a length of time tears weren't seen as an appropriate expression of emotion for males. By the masses, or whoever the hell it is that comes up with these arbitrary limitations on how we're supposed to act.

Incidentally, has anyone seen Occult Academy? Is it decent?

I figured manly tears was more a holdover from how some past societies/local cultures were with 'how men should and shouldn't act'.

I figured manly tears was more a holdover from how some past societies/local cultures were with 'how men should and shouldn't act'.
A brief list of people who were cool with men crying: Greeks, Romans, Hebrews, Medieval Europeans, Medieval Japanese, etc. In fact, just about every pre-Enlightenment culture was full of stories about warriors and heroes crying when it was appropriate to do so. From what I recall, during the Enlightenment crying came to be seen as irrational and potentially manipulative rather than virtuous. Two hundred odd years later we got the absolutely wonderful notions of proper gender-specific behavior of the Victorian era.

So honestly it's a fairly recent development, historically speaking.

I've heard good things about it, but I haven't actually seen it myself.
