ALSO, Sanya is best witch
^ This. BTW The infamous episode about the stolen panties, is based on a real WWII event:
So, the most ludicrous Strike Witches episode is also, ironically, the most "historical".

I just came across my personal worst case of "failsubs". I'm trying to watch the last bit of Milky Holmes season 2, the group subbing it went on hiatus, so I switch to another group. Bad Move. The original group, kiteseekers, seemed pretty good, and they mask signs and stuff frame-by-frame so everything works really nice with the animation. Good attention to detail etc. But the group i tried for the last few episodes, nicorip, is downright awful. I was "muddling along" with it until they hit something I couldn't brush off, and have to stop watching whenever it occurs (which is anytime they reference the most prominent protagonist):

That character is Sherlock (Sher for short), i.e. as in granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes. For some insane reason, nicorip believe she's called fucking Sharon.

I've had similar issues in the past. The problem arises from when the group doing the subs doesn't have the references (or Western language equivalents of katakana aren't confirmed) from the rest of the series. It's probably because the katakana for Sher, the nickname, is something like "Shero" since Japanese doesn't have any consonant by itself except for 'n' (notice how all Japanese words end in a vowel or n). The pronunciation of 'e' in the "She" part is much like "eh", which is roughly like the sound of the 'a' in "Sharon". "Shero" doesn't make any sense, so if those silly Japanese were spelling someone's name in katakana, they probably somehow messed up, lost an ending letter, and they totally mean Sharon.

That is, I figure, the reason why it's "Sharon" instead of "Sher" for "Sherlock". Doesn't excuse them from not understanding the series though.

Holy shit, like, HOLY SHIT was that a fun ride!

On a whim, I decided to watch through the three episode OVA of Cutie Honey. That was a goddamn rollercoaster ride of zany ecchi goodness. Really, it's just a mindlessly fun time all the way through, and when it was all over my opinion of the type of mindless fun it encapsulated had improved since the show proves just how masterfully it can be pulled off.

Each ep is about 45 minutes long, three in total. Even if you hate shows that have so much fan service it might as well just be labeled softcore porn, just give it a single watch through, you won't regret it.

Weirdly enough, the show reminds me of Diebuster, even though I hated Diebuster SO MUCH.

I wouldn't mind Diebuster as much if it wasn't supposed to be a direct sequel Gunbuster, it's much more serious and masterfully done predecessor. If it weren't for that, I could look at Diebuster for it's own merits, but just the fact that it's very existence sullies the image of a classic, it just bothers me to no end.

It's just that they're so different that the knowledge that they're supposed to take place in the same universe just poisons the viewing experience for both. I mean, I still remember Gunbuster pretty clearly and I still remember just how unendingly cool it was! And it ended on the perfect note as well, there was no need for a sequel! Still, there was, and when I got my hands on Diebuster and started it up ready to continue on another awesome adventure, I'm left staring wide-eyed and slack-jawed, just going "Oh god... oh god what happened... everything's fucked up now! NNNOOOOO!"

It's been years since I last tried sitting through it, and I could try giving it another spin now that my palate is cleaner, but I'm not too hyped about that idea to be honest.

Someone here recommended Mai-Hime (aka my-hime), or their friend did. I gotta say, I want to hunt that person down and punch them. The show sucks, but I'm at a point where I'm just going to grit my teeth and watch the 2nd half anyway, just so I can say I finished it and never speak of it again.

Hmm, I got to a point in Mai-Hime where it looked like the entire school-life setting was going to be derailed, I had hopes that the plot was about to thicken immensely. No such luck, 2 episodes later and the Big Bads which have been gradually hinted at all season, seem to have already called it quits on their power-grab, with another 10 episodes still left to go.

It always sucks when you think "ahah, here the real plot seems to be kicking in", then it flops back to episodic.

I recall a pretty decent Mai-Hime/Nanoha crossover (with a paper-thin excuse for getting MGLN characters on-planet, admittedly) that pretty much went apeshit and turned everything up to 11. At the point where the author stopped writing, the situation had degenerated to the point of widespread war, some sort of Elder Godesque being merging with characters' minds, and a large contingent from the Asura ending up on planet and openly fighting on one of the several sides.

Can't say how much that reflects on what goes on later in canon for the series, though, as I've never watched Mai-Hime.

Mai-Hime wasn't completely unenjoyable, but it's definitely very unoriginal, with "plot twists" that are very predictable: "you thought you were fighting 'cliched villain type A' but you're really fighting 'even more cliched XYZ' ". Unbelievable deus-ex machina save the day.

Basically HIME = (mostly) high-school girls who can materialize weapons and signature pet animal robots (which can be huge) out of thin air, to battle evil corporations or each other. They all have the same "birthmark" and can see this red star that nobody else can, and are presented with a series of angsty moral dilemmas. All the girls have some sort of tragic backstory to discover, or a tragic story that plays itself out.

I wouldn't say the series was awful by any means, but there's little I could say to the question of "why would you watch this rather than watching a more original series?".

I think if you're an anime watcher you need to be able to form a snap judgment on a series based on the name.  "Mai-Hime" starts off with a massive negative score for me, I'd probably need to be pestered for months to watch it.

So in other words one of those series that gets thrown onto the "maybe if I become immortal" pile because the "I need to watch this at some point" pile is already overflowing.

I stopped myself from doing Momoyo's route in Majikoi (while I got a bit far but) and decided to do Komari in Little Busters!  That was strange.  I'll do Rin1 now...
Spoiler: images (click to show/hide)

I also finished volume 12 of Angel Densetsu, my manga speed currently is pathetically slow.  I did like one little arc though, even if I'm starting to get kind of tired of this series...

Liked Ao Oni, Corpse Party, or Ib?  Then you need to play The Witch's House, it's fantastic!  Also the scariest of the four in my opinion.  Good luck mission start muscles muscles

And now I will look through the distant window of life and play more VNs while waiting for more VNs...and this guy
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
:]

What am I doing

EDIT:
Oh right, Light Novel news.  I finished volume 1 of Utsuro no Hako and I'm pretty much done with what's translated of MuvLuv Alternative Schwarzesmarken.  Utsuro no Hako was like Haruhi/Higurashi and was kind of strange...I could read more though.  While the MuvLuv one is just pretty awesome in my opinion.  More.
