Wikipedia says he got out because he was too shocked to stop him, though.

You mean when Johan first encountered Tenma as a young adult?  That's because Tenma was in complete shock.  This was the first time he realized what his actions have caused.

Oh, that's fine, I wouldn't expect Tenma to jump on him there and use his mad judo skillz to subdue a murderer with a gun. That's reasonable. However, instead of going to the police and telling them about a nutjob killing people, so that they could find and capture Johan, he decides to play batman, and save the world by himself.
Fucking go to the police, Tenma! The police! That's what they're for, for (insert diety here)'s sake.

And then Johan kills his twin sister's foster parents. Go to the police, Tenma! But no. The lone avenger will take care of it himself. More people will most likely die due to his idiotic behaviour, but he's still the good guy. Oh, well.

Oh, whatever. I barely remember how it went anyway. All I really remember of the anime is the impression that it was trying too look more intelectual than it really was.
In other words I think the show was pretty dumb, and I'll stick to this opinion.

I just finished watching a show called 'Eureka 7' which features giant mecha riding surfboards through the air on waves of light. Surprisingly though, this is kind of incidental to various love stories that make up the plot. I quite enjoyed it, even though the ending and premise were kind of weak.

Really? I thought the premise was cool. Not the surfboarding mecha, that was pretty lame, but the whole

appealed to me. The ending was sappy as fuck though, really it felt like the last episode didn't need to exist except they screwed themselves over at the end of the penultimate and had to deus ex machina their way out.

The show almost entirely shifts in premise near the end.

I liked Anemone and Dominic, but other than that... wasn't too fond of the show and stopped watching it.

I've watched the first few episodes.
Kind of meh, but I won't judge until I've seen the whole thing.

Watching Ghost in the Shell episodes. Hehe, listening to robots speak rapid-fire philosophy in high squeaky voices is absolutely hilarious! :D

But now I'm sad because I have less than half a season left. :(

It's okay!

The director of Stand Alone Complex went on to do Eden of the East, which is great. And Shirow recently did Real Drive, which sounds pretty interesting.
