You can always go to Kaiji, where there's no women whatsoever! ... well ... I suppose there's one...

I recently finished Season 15 of Bleach. This was actually a while ago but I needed some recuperative time to let the brain damage heal. I'm not Neonivek, I don't draw nourishment from bad shows. Still though, it had atleast one good moment, and it was at the very end, and I thought that if the show ended right there, it would have been somewhat tasteful, even if everything proceeding up to it was a joke.

Also, I don't know what is up with the production values, but the artistic quality of the show skyrockets at random points for no reason in totally inconsequential scenes, before dropping back down before we the audience gets used to it and starts expecting more from the show.

One Punch Man? Mob Psycho 100? One Piece may be lumped in with Bleach and Naruto as "the big three" but it's the only one worth watching, Bleach is pretty, Naruto had some neat characters but bashes them with a plothammer of stupid, One Piece is weird but great fun. Maria the Virgin Witch deserves a mention due to the AMAZING accuracy of their armor and weaponry, to the point where diehard middle ages reenactors and such point it out. Nanatsu no Taizai is a lot of fun, though it has the groping and such, if you know the backstory of DB well enough then DBSuper is a lot of fun as it goes back to the earlier series feel in many well appreciated ways, if you aren't up on the backstory I'd suggest watching the Abridged version of DBZ, it's more fun if you aren't already a DBZ fan, I'm still irked about some of the wonky models in the new Berserk but goddamn it isn't like I'm gonna stop watching it, though I wish it had the CG budget of Sidonia no Kishi.

The ones I haven't seen and will check out are:

Mob Psycho 100
Maria the Virgin Witch

And I totally forgot there was a new Berserk.  I should check that out too.

I'm also a sucker for One Piece, I've been watching it for ages despite violating most of my preferences.

The thing is, in Japan, sex sells. A lot. A lot a lot a lot. And Japan is very adam smith about how they do business, so what happens is the marketplace is saturated with fanservicy crap all the time because that's what sells the most copies.

I've noticed.  I wish they'd just be happy making porn of stuff after the fact, rather than inserting it into everything though. :\  I like my stories to be stories and my porn to be porn.

Yeah, Maria has a whole sexual subplot but it doesn't actually get into it, since you know, the reason behind it, but yeah it's a cute enough show with a nicely resolved storyline, but damn the gearporn is amazing.

Porn is illegal to make in Japan... KIND OF SORT OF depends on the time of the month...

I think my process for picking stuff to watch might be flawed.  I see an animated gif on Imgur with helicopters ripping medieval soldiers to shreds, and I automatically assume I want to watch it.

Anybody have any recommendations for anime that meets this criteria?
- Main character isn't a boring high-school loser who somehow has great stuff happen to him all the time.
- Nobody trips and falls and lands on a girls boobs or any other lame tropes like that.
- Not a harem anime, and doesn't have (implied or otherwise) incest, kiddy-molestation/etc.
- Has action.
- The main character doesn't narrate every frickin thing he does.
- Not too dumbed down for an audience who doesn't pay attention.
- Has a story that progresses.

Currently airing shows that at least technically don't trigger anything in the above list:

- 91 Days
- Asrlan Senki
- JoJo's bizarre adventure
- Kuromukuro
- Alderamin
- Gundam and Macross

Though I don't think it's just anime. If you were to literally pick a live-action TV show at random, what are the odds of getting a good one with "action and an ongoing plot"? Maybe like 0.1% of American TV shows would fit that description.

More, if you accept that that ongoing plot isn't something you want anything to do with. Most day-time soaps actually seem to have a non-negligible amount of action sequences in 'em, ferex, if not quite as action-y as your average series or movie focused on it. And they have an ongoing plot! It's just, y'know. You probably want to vigorously advance to the rear the moment there's even the suggestion you may be stuck having to interact with said plot. Maybe promptly defenestrate yourself if you're high enough off the ground and there's a near enough window.

Think it's sorta' true for a lot of cop dramas and whatnot, too -- still fairly episodic or whatev', but with overarching plotlines and such alongside 'em. Hell, a lot of 'em pretty much nail lev's list dead on, from what I can recall of being stuck in hearing/sight distance of the damned things. It's just that they're kinda' shit, and the plot is of the sort you might have a more enjoyable time inserting rusty nails into your frontal lobe.

Yeah, I tend more towards animated stuff(anime and western stuff) just because I find it more fun in general than live-action stuff.  I do watch live action stuff, but mostly just marvel superhero shows (looking forward to new season of Agents of Shield).   :P

Thanks for the list Reelya, a few of those looked interesting and I've added them to my list.

Fullmetal Alchemist would be in violation of this list due to the second clause, but I'd still recommend it.
Assassination Classroom's main character is an intriguing high school loser and doesn't have great stuff happen to him all the time. He does self-narrate sometimes, but it didn't really come off as obnoxious.
Soul Eater meets all of the requirements, but it has the original Fullmetal Alchemist's problem of spawning its own original plot after it outpaced the manga.

Season 15 was a filler season, so it's best not to judge all of Bleach based on it. Season 16 had some pretty decent production values all throughout IIRC.

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

It helps that it only happens... well once in all of Fullmetal Alchemist.

Brotherhood has a couple of those too, but a complete lack of any sort of service is kind of a high bar, and a bit arbitrary since you exclude all sorts of amazing shows based on that one requirement. Though, Unlimited Budget Works only has like... two parts that really count as any sort of service (besides awesomesword of fuckoffery) and Fate/Zero has... Alexander, plus more of the awesomesword of fuckoffery.

Psycho Pass avoided tropes like moe and sexualization of the main character to appeal to women more, the first season is pretty good. I'm not sure if there are any other anime that deliberately set out to avoid pandering tropes like that.

There are plenty of random older series I've seen that fit, like GitS: SAC, LoGH, HxH and such.

Yeah, I remember liking Psycho Pass for the most part.  :)  It might be worth saying I actually don't mind sexual themes, its just that in prettty much any anime I've seen it always comes of as pandering to me(or the supposed target 14-year old horny Japanese teenager), rather than being an actual part of the story.

I'm not actually finished watching it, but Seirei no Moribito (Guardian of the Sacred Spirit) is very good in those regards.

Seconding this. It's beautiful to look at, has an interesting and compact plot, excellent fights, and basically none of the medium's usual bullshit.
