Yeah I'm really disappointed with how much the show seems to have been ignored as far as I've seen. Not only is it really well written, well animated, has good fights, is well researched, and has really interesting themes and has a great setting, but it's freaking Japanese Watchmen/Civil War! How do you not love that?!

One of the thing that irks me is that often I see something in a show that's different, and say "wow that's different to the regular shows, cool!" and go to read about it online and see all these people complaining about how it's different to a "normal" show and how dare the creators not do it the normal way. It's usually for any show that doesn't have approved anime styletm artwork.

e.g. people bitched about No Game No Life's weird colorful artstyle, but those same people don't bitch about the naked lolis and giant boobs. You know someone has issues when their #1 complaint about that show is that the color palette is too creative.

Another example I have in mind is in this show Denpa Kyoushi (not bad but nothing special) where the main character had a little sister voiced by a newbie seiyuu and she sounds very different to the typical seiyuus you hear, which I thought was cute because, well it's different, so I looked her up and found people complaining about how she didn't have a "proper imouto voice". I wouldn't be surprised if these same people later bitch about how so many shows are the same.

I should probs give it another try, my only beef with it is that I was severely confused by the rapid back and forth time traveling the narrative did.

What?!? You mean to say you haven't watched enough loli-focused sis-con to be able to tell a proper imouto voice from a improper one!?! For shame! Get out of the anime thread! We don't take kindly to your type around these parts! Go on, scram!

Huh. The art design of NGNL was pretty much the only redeeming factor I saw in it.

Not enough to counteract it being shallow pedobaiting haremshit that jumped on the MMO train to weebville, but still.

That's the way I feel about Hyakka Ryouran Samurai Girls too. It had amazing art direction, pretty much all the way through, and when it does have fight scenes they look great, but there's a big patch of bland domestic harem stuff in the middle of the first season bookended with the plot and fighting parts. Could have been an outstanding entry in the battle harem genre just on the strength of the artstyle alone, but the problem is that rather than being "dumb fun" the middle part of the series just got downright boring. Which is a shame because the setting isn't actually that bad either, but apparently the creator stuffed the original novels with long stretches of generic harem stuff that would be the same in any setting.

Yeah, I can't think of many new shows from this year that were particularly good. Reelya basically listed all of them already, though I'd toss Sakurako's Bones (or whatever the English name for that is supposed to be) on there in lieu of Overlord or something myself.

I really hate the 12 episode season trend these days. Its not enough time to finish a show properly so its mostly unfinished stuff, which is then never ever finished.

Something something ending is paramount.
