I'd say that Saitama is a parody of the very idea of fanmade 'original character' heroes. His appearance is plain and featureless, his outfit is just the bland and plain yellow suit with white cape. His only ability is punching people *really* hard.

It's a dumb show, but it's so likable because it clearly has so much understanding of it's subject matter behind it.

Yet the weirdest thing about it... Saitama is much more well written and deep then the material he is a parody of... just like the show.

It makes me wonder if the intention of the show is just to show is not so much a parody of boring self-insert protagonists... But to show them that you can have them and make them amazing. As in to curb stomp creators at their own game.

"Ohh, you are going to have another invincible character who finishes everyone off with one move and has basically no real connection to the plot yet is surrounded by other people who have much more reason to be the main character then him? Well you know what? I am going to do it and I am going to make it good just to show you how it is done!"

I just took OP-Man as a comedy action series and I had tremendous fun, I honestly never thought about it being a parody.

Honestly my theory, assuming that isn't a quote, is that he was intended to be a parody but the author just ended up making it a legit manga anyway and poured his creativity into it.

So I caved and read as much OPM manga as I could find, and I have to say that while I love all the little extra stories that get thrown into the manga that never make it into the anime, I still love the anime alot since they expand heavily on the otherwise very brief fight scenes in the manga.

So... Steins;Gate 0 has been released in VN format..

And they have an Episode 23 B for Steins;Gate the anime, which sets precedent for Steins;Gate 0.

Really like what they did, what with intentionally retaining their production values since 2011 just to retain consistency.

Well it started out as an amateur web comic, so anything's possible really.

One thing I like about One Punch Man are the side characters. The guys who'd be joke characters in every other show are taken fairly seriously here. Mumen Rider, for instance, is just a guy on a bike but he's a guy on a bike who saves lives and is respected for doing so. Even Puri-Puri Prisoner and Metal Bat meaningfully contribute despite being what would count in other shows as "gag/joke characters".

All fanfics are heresy, each and every one, especially the shipping ones. Those are by far the worst.

I think that's kinda of the point, completely flipping everything around. A hero who does stuff because it's fun and never really struggles. Gag characters and tropes taken seriously that actually feel real. And of course, every fight is amazing until Saitama shows up and just finishes it in an instant. BUT WHAT A GRATIFYING INSTANT IT IS!!
Ahem..
Anyways, the latest episode was amazing. I think i found my favourite expression.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

One thing I'll say though, I like how subtle it is, but it seems that Saitama does stop fucking around when shit gets a bit more serious. Like, you can clearly tell there's a difference in his approach when things are trying to kill him and when things are threatening others. He'll act stupid and casual in the former case for the most part, even messing with the poor sods, but the latter is much much shorter and to the point and I love it, how a joke like that can actually become serious and not feel cheap or anything.
Damn shame there's just one more episode tho, what the hell am I going to watch for a year now ;__;

Have some nice charts of some of the references in Concrete Revolutio, both cultural and historical. And here's one put together by 2chan if anyone reads moon.

I notice a lot of people who fanboyed over Kekkai Sensen ( mal:7.8 ) are heaping shit on Concrete Revolutio ( mal:6.5 ). Which in terms of Mal's rating spread is like chalk and cheese. I can't really see how those two shows are so differently rated.

I actually find Concrete Revolutio a lot more interesting and enjoyable. Kekkai Sensen was pretty stylistic (ala Baccano/Durarara), but I  didn't find any of the actual writing to be anything that interesting. Good art, dull characters and stories. At the end of the day it was just about the typical average teen kid with a magical eye, and his macho friends fighting the bad guys. Whereas with Concrete Revolutio there's a lot more diversity of characters types, and character motivations, plus the episode plots are well written and include a lot of actual moral dilemmas and philosophical questions. There was never anything like a moral or philosophical dilemma in Kekkai Sensen, just whether they could beat that weeks bad guys.
