Il Palazzo was quite content lately. He admired a fine idea of dropping a depot 20 z-levels down. He was comforted by the sight of myriad of goblin bones. He wondered about the goblin who pretended that his leg hurt to avoid battle.
-Oh, my comrades! my leg!
-What 'bout it boss?
-It hutrs! Look, it's missing.
-Errm. Ok boss. Which of your legs is missing boss?
-This one, the one that hurts! Oh, I cannot walk, I cannot lead you to this inevitably gloriius battle until I'll bet better. Now bring some snacks a open the ale barrel.

my trade depot.
Which I promptly dropped into a 20 z-level pit.
I rebuilt and dropped the depot a couple more times

Dwarven engineering has found its new master.

Ever considering an isolation portcullis, with a firing squad on top?

My trade Depot pit is normally used for when the elves come, but it's also useful as an emergency fortress sealing method.

Really, I'll drop that depot at the drop of a hat (nyuk nyuk nyuk). if I ever think "OH FUCK", that lever gets pulled.

Kind of inefficient, you know.

And I just finished my Triple Bulkhead trap Blue Print, includes lava, and a mechanism to keep the lava out/ keep the radicals at bay/ let the elves on what I think about them.
PM me if you want it.

Kind of inefficient, you know.

Efficiency is good, but flashiness and loudness is even better. that's how I play, at least

Somebody needs to build an active volcano inside a fortress inside an active volcano.
So a giant obsidian ring shaped fort?

And (because of various programming quirks) dwarves are kinda stupid. Granted, so are the other races. But still.
And yet these stupid dwarves are going to eventually make a nuclear weapon out of cheese and basalt.

A true dwarf, but mine feeds them lava, what'd you do, make it a lava island.

Considering that creation is fast, and includes lava, I'd definitely put that Depot right on top of a pit of lava.

Hey, my first post! I can't believe the name 'Dwarf' wasn' already taken.

So, appearently, there's bauxite on my current fortress. Rough amounts. If I dig deep enough and find magma... SUPRISE!

Also, I've found a large cluster of Magnetite (which secures my iron) and even a platinum vein in it. This is actually great. IMO.

Oh, and don't worry about magnetite, you'll run out, they always do. don't worry, if you find one magnetite vein, their's BOUND to be more.

o_O Dwarf wasn't taken yet? Impossible. Identity theft! Tell us were you hid that poor dwarf you stole your name from!

Insanity aside, that does sound like a rather nice site to build a fortress. Dig deeper, it will be fun ;)
