Best thing I ever got was actually my first one. (First successful one, anyway... a few went crazy before this.)

It's long gone by now, but it was a platinum bed with silver stuff on it and some leather and cloth. I put it in my Mayor's bedroom and the room jumped from just a plain old bedroom to a royal one.

I got a silver short sword, but it hasn't seen much action.

This just in:
*Razorskewers the undignified fang* an electrum cross bow. There is an image of Moldath the deity of earth depicted as female dwarf in crundle bone. Moldath is contemplating.

That is just the right name for a cross bow. :P

Just when I felt the need for a silver mace to go with my first macedwarf, my high master weaponsmith goes fey, grabs a gold bar and camel bones, and makes a gold mace. Hell yes. I think this beats my iron war hammer way back then.

"Fogtest the Cavernous Cloak", a gold mace. It is decorated with two humped camel bone, and encircled with bands of gold.

"The Equal Jewel", a yellow zircon crown in my old fortress. I used a bit of planepacking on it and it's so awesome that in my current fortress it still gets engraved everywhere. I like to RP that it's the crown of all dwarfkind. When my fortress finally crumbles I'll send an adventurer out to find it, though since it's a 31.12 world that's about all there is for an adventurer to do...

Socks inspire the same sort of emotions in dwarfs that Helen of Troy inspired in the Achaean Greeks. Although it is said that Helen's face launched a thousand ships, socks have surely launched a million ultimately-fatal Store Owned Item tasks.

Fun one after a recent, somewhat hairy badger attack: a platinum mace, studded with platinum and decorated with badger leather and banded with rings of badger bone. Value approximately 133 000 dorfbucks.

Most dwarvenly one I've seen.

A bitumous coal bed encircled with bands of pine and menacing with spikes of bitumous coal.

My first ever artifact. :D :D :D

I once got an adamantine scimitar called Cutfog the...something of something. This was ages ago though, and I only remember the Cutfog part because it actually sounded like it could be the name of a mythic weapon. I don't remember how or why, but the damn thing was absolutely covered in gem decorations. It's like the goony jackass who made it believed even weapons needed to be gawdy bling-encrusted nightmares.

I miss that sword though. It saw a good bit of use for a time.

Vathez Gedore, "The Virgin of Evil", a dwarf bone statue of Defiyi Grizzlysuiters

This is a dwarf bone statue of Defiyi Grizzlysuitors. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. The item is a masterfully designed image of Defiyi Grizzlysuitors the elf and Lefari Meadowhale the Esteemed Dunes the roc in dwarf bone by Ingish Etesurist (My expedition leader). Lefari Meadowhale the Esteemed Dunes is striking down Defiyi Grizzlysuitors. The artwork relates to the killing of the elf Defiyi Grizzlysuitors by the roc Lefari Meadowhale the Esteemed Dunes in The Fingers of Tanning in 24. This object menaces with spikes of dwarf bone.

My expedition leader killed my only peasant just before the first year ended, He is a lot more useful as a statue.

And then there's the statue of the dwarf who made it raising it in his hands. :P

When I found shiny stuff in Deathcrafts, the dwarves went nuts, and three artifacts in a row were made from it - a buckler, a throne and a crutch.

The Throne is the best - The Courteous Bolts - only because it has a goblin being struck down on it.  Worth a little under 800,000, and I've made an engraved two level high temple to it - it's sitting in a one level high pedestal, with 40 wooden chairs facing it.
