That's badass. I might have to start up a fortress in this version for the explicit purpose of playing on that map.

I embarked, and there's already a lungfish walking around.

In my sub-zero winter wonderland.

THEY FOLLOW ME EVEN HERE

THERE IS NO ESCAPE

I thought lungfish don't move around on land, because they still have IMMOBILE_LAND or whatever?

Also, are you getting elephants and apes and other normal tropical stuff? That would be hilarious to have in a map that's basically arctic.

I just started with the coniferous one, so I'm only getting elephants now. If you want monkeys, try the moist broadleaf. Also, that lungfish is definitely walking around.

I have this white crystalline winter wasteland, but with elephants and lungfish in it.

Also, the river is useless, it's frozen.  :P

I take it there's no magma, so how are you going to find a water source?

I suppose you might be able to collapse a couple of z-layers of ice or something, if that method still works.

Yeah, no magma at my embark. You could search for it, I guess, but I was actually going for a challenge. Wounded? Too bad. No alcohol? Also too bad. Squeeze moisture out of that -Cat Tallow Roast-.

Hey, I just generated a world with the max temp as 1000 and the min as -1000, and almost all the minimum square counts off. I got a scorching tropical freshwater lake. I think that further investigation might be good to ascertain how we can generate tropics for the next version.

Edit:
Holy shit, I just embarked there and there was steam all over the lake. Now it's gone.

The lake, I mean. The steam too, but the LAKE IS GONE. It's just red sand now.

Holy shit. Don't embark on scorching places, guys. Don't do it.

FOR THE LOVE OF ARMOK

Edit 2:
Also, I'm building my fort on the lake bed.

Edit 3: Nevermind, there are fires in the lake bed.

I'm scared, guise. For the first time in my life, I don't know what to do. Also, I don't have an axe, and I didn't bring wood. Maybe I can use those three logs to smelt some copper ore and make an axe before all is lost.

I embarked on it already, but okay. Saving in the middle of smelting some hematite for an axe.

You are a brave man, IWM. May Armok have mercy on your soul.

Well, rain came and my dog bled to death.

Ugh. At least the fires are out for now.

HAHHAHAHAHA

One of those elephants got caught in a fire. It's got red wounds everywhere.

It died as soon as I unpaused the game. My eyes are moist. This is clawing at my heart, for some reason.

Just for reference, there doesn't seem to be magma near any of the glaciers... at least not near non-glacial territory. There might be some in the tundra.

This world is pretty great and absurd. Temperature gradients are all over the damn place; I've got scorching zones not too far away from my icy rainforest/glacier/tundra combo map.

The map has weird features for some reason. For instance, in one of the huge tundra areas, there's a tiny mountain range sticking out of the ground, with various special features and either a goblin tower or a dwarven hall. You can fit at least half the mountain range on a standard-size embark square, with tundra around it. I think the mountains have magma and.. a chasm? I forget.

That elephant is lying in a pool of blood, with warm drops of rain pattering quietly on and all around it.

 :'(

Wow, it decayed FAST. Like, 5 seconds real time. DAYUM

Also, thanks for the compliments on that world. I consider them complements.

Okay, I think that dog must have gotten caught in a fire. There are three dead elephants right now, and the dog. I think they decay so fast because of the temperature. It's still raining, so the fires are still out, but I got that axe.

Also, I'm definitely going to take a look at that mountain. Good job finding it.

Ah. I'm still downloading it. I'll post some thing later!

Edit: Ah shit. The lake is now red, with ashes. Why the peasant died? I don't know.

Why the peasant died?

What?!

Anyway, the water evaporated because of the heat. Grass starts growing in the lake, but it always catches on fire immediately. For some reason, the peasant ended up in the lake and got lit on fire.
