i hear that you must spawn a map with no other civs
(maybe if you settle a dwarf fort into a metropolis then?)

you can settle in goblin towns if they're at peace with you, duh...

Then again, the one we got was already rather injured was already giving into pain a lot...

what kind of GCS were you fighting?  because the ones in the DF I play (being stock) dont feel pain, nor emotions, nor fear, nor do they give in to stun.

strangely they only have two eyes though, which is probably at least six less than they ought to have.

This is really really subjective. Different spider have all sorts of different eye configurations, they range from 2 eyes to 8 eyes, but they can have any number in between as well, even odd numbers.

I did a 'fix' in my modded df raws where i added 4EYES to the GCS and GDS body tags. 4EYES already exists in the default bodygloss. The sea monster uses it.
