Heyy... what does everyone think of this character:
The Space Marine, who could do fine without a name but may be called "Darrak Toran".
He is a Stephinian Special Ops. equivalent, given testosterone injections bi-monthly like all members of the Stephinian Special Forces in addition to the military-issue glandular system which already produces the hormone.
These shots give him a build quite different from those of the normal Stephinian citizen. He is quite physically tough and strong, though still not terribly powerful compared to most other species. Like the Stephinian race as a whole, he prefers to solve problems through tactics, logic, and skill as opposed to simple application of brute force (though he's not opposed to its use when called for).
He is trained in the use of heavy weaponry, using a SDW-550 (intended for use on aircraft) set up for continuous fire.
Having this extra muscle mass is extremely taxing on the Stephinian metabolism, consuming energy at more than five times the rate of a normal Stephinian. He is outfitted with a digestive system, being incapable of leaving Stephinia for more than a couple hours without needing to eat.
General info on the Stephinian race:
Stephinians are an extremely old race of Sufficiently Advanced Aliens, one of the first species in their universe to gain sentience.
The original Stephinians were a warlike, noble, and highly intelligent race. They very quickly unified into a single empire, then branched out to conquer the stars. Cybernetics were their specialty- as well as their downfall.
Their technological development was greatly accelerated by the discovery of memetic energy. Memetic energy is an energy source in direct violation of the law of conservation of energy. Though it is not very well understood, it is usually generated by playing music (it's effectively The Power Of Rock).
The Ancient Stephinian military was primarily composed of robotic warriors, fueled by memetic energy. These machines, the most dependable and widely produced being the Diesel and Exciter classes, made incredible warriors. However, they were not suitable for command, and so the LS project was created...
Nearly one hundred thousand years after they began to colonise space, the LS project was started. The LS class was to be an extremely powerful field command unit, able to coordinate an entire army on its own, while also impervious to any form of information extraction.
The first three LS units, LS 000-001, 002, and 003, lived up to expectations. Alongside their incredible computing systems, two of these robots were also equipped with extremely powerful devices that gave the ability to control the enviroment around them. LS 000-001 was given power over electromagnetism and 003 power over air pressure. An Exciter class machine was modified to include a similar module with control over thermal energy (this being in line with the Exciter class's main method of attack, a "thermal lance" which can burn through flesh, bone, and steel as easily as butter). A Diesel class was also commisioned with much greater strength than the norm (the Diesel class being designed for extreme mechanical strength, though their computing systems are very limited). LS 000-002 was designed for a support role, being able to repair and "buff" the other machines.
These five robots were arranged into a special forces unit, and quickly proved their worth on the battlefield.
Approximately ten years after the first LS units were produced, LS 000-003 went berserk, destroying most of Stephinia. LS 000-001, 003, and a very small scattering of live Stephinians are the only known survivors of this incident. The remnants of the Stephinian empire, with its military shattered and its will crushed, were taken over by a group of power-hungry dictators. The once-great Stephinian empire was crushed into nothing.
After roaming the universe for many trillions of years in the time-travel capable battleship which was designed for his use, LS 000-001 unwittingly returned to Stephinia, inciting revolt in the populace and killing the leaders of the oppressive government.
The Stephinian people, now leaderless but hopeful, forced LS 000-001 to become the head of their government.
LS 000-001 immediately began applying mechanical thinking to his job. Under the rule of the dictatorship, crime was rampant. Strongly addictive and psychoactive substances were freely distributed by the goverment to supress rebellion (a "bread and circuses" sort of thing).
The lazy, criminal, and addicted were given a choice: Submit to extreme rehabilitation and reeducation procedures, or be executed. Needless to say, many pepole were quite upset by this decision. A group of criminals started an organization, calling themselves the Rouge Stephinians. They would develop into one of the largest threats to the New Stephinian Empire.
001 made major changes to the Stephinian genetic makeup, eliminating reproduction and the need for chemical sustenance. The Stephinian body simply extracts the energy it needs from the wireless energy grid. Obviously, this means that a citizen can't stay away from home for very long. Citizens and soldiers who have to stay off-planet for extended periods of time are fitted with digestive and respiratory systems allowing them to metabolise chemical energy sources.
The Stephinians were not only blessed with the discovery of memetic energy utilization, but the asteroid fields around the Stephinian sun are rich in an extremely rare and exotic metal called Merovia. Merovia bonds very strongly with carbon atoms. Pure Merovia is very mallable, and has a relatively low melting point. When mixed in with a steel alloy, it quickly becomes an incredibly strong metal that resists radiation. It has odd properties when alloyed with other metals as well, such as aluminum, titanium, and lead (it is occasionally refered to as the "moreso metal", exaggerating the properties of many metals that it is alloyed with). Many meroviate alloys will collect and store memetic energy when they are exposed to it.
Sorry about the massive quantity of background information, but no part of the Stephinian mythos makes any sense at all (WTF why is
attacking our planet, and why does this guy shoot green sparks from his hands, and etcetera...) if you don't understand the big picture...
Also, he needs a better name (unless we can just call him Space Marine).
If it's okay, I think I'll go onto the waiting list.
