Not to the the only objector.....but....

Only if it has a disable option. I've managed to figure out a method to systematically harvest iron and bone off the gobbos, and having to claim each pile would be as annoying to me (if not more) than you experience with your over-eager haulers and sock connoisseurs.

With mass reclaim (d->b->c), you can't complain about claiming each pile being too hard. Plus, you can take your sweet time after the attack is over.
We really need to get rid of the "entrance dance", and the OP's proposition is the best solution I have seen.

By the same line of logic, with mass forbid you can't complain about the status quo.

I'm not against your desire...I just want an on/off switch so I don't have to play like you do. And I don't think it's a game breaker as is.

The new and advanced stock menu could help you with this .. just unforbid the stuff you want from there and let the hauling begin .. its at least less anyoing than searching the piles of the dead enemies.

I can sense one potential error here.

Hunters and tame animals. If corpses are auto-forbidden, then naturally so would animals be auto-forbidden. Particularly for hunters, they'd shoot up a bunch of animals and then be incapable of actually bringing them back.

Tame animals may or may not be an issue, I am not exactly sure. If an animal is butchered live, will its body parts be forbidden?

Hence, if this is implemented, it really needs an on/off switch.

Yeah, I'm gonna add Zombie's orders list to my first post, sans gems and ore because that is a bit on the excessive side and would lead to Quantum Stockpiling - which is something that hadn't occurred to me.

The idea behind the toggles on the orders menu is that you could turn these options on during a siege or when you get ambushed, so that anything the gobbos drop (and, if you want, the corpses themselves) are ignored.  Then, once the battle is over, you flip the option off (which wouldn't reclaim already forbidden items, just stop new corpse drops from being forbidden) and reclaim whatever you think you need.

[E]: I added Zombie's orders (sans dumping, for the reasons I outlined) and the paragraph above to the first post.  Hopefully that helps to more fully explain the idea.

Actually, it'd be the most dangerous district in hundreds of thousands of worlds, starting with 'Xah Rabin' The Dimension of Omen.

Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes, this should be one of the top 10.  I would vote for it.

I'm much more comfortable with the new revision, but still think the better way is just to fix the dance. Somehow the job creation system needs to evaluate the pathing for violation of the "no dwarves/only soldiers outside" command. If it worked it would make us all happy, I beleive. But... if that doesn't happen, then this is a good workaround.

This is kind of a temporary solution to a bigger problem, yeah, but the option to forbid all those goblin clothes and just leave them where they lie automatically is almost as nice as fixing that damned entrance dance.

I don't think that it would be too hard to have an autoforbid except for X feature - that is, for hunters, only they will be able to carry the kill back or even perhaps only the hunter that did the kill whilst all other hunters continue with their hunting (or decide to escort the main hunter back - choosing here would be neat :P)

Problem would probably be to have a clean enough interface for all of this.

I am liking the various ideas put forth.

Come mighty dorfs we must not allow this topic to be struck down. Continue to post so that the toad may take note.

Do remember that autoforbidding corpses would single handedly break hunting

Not corpses, what they drop.  As in, the goblin clothing auto-forbids, etc.

What about this one: http://www.unibroue.com/products/fin.cfm ? It's the finest ale I've ever tasted. I'm sure Toady would like it...if he DOES like beer at all.

Astounding how fast Toady implemented this feature. Can't wait for the next larger release, though I want to play with my .38e fortress for a bit longer. ;)
