not too long before meee.  ;D

nice update nakh. That tower picture (which was pleasantly crude) gave me an idea for my underwater fortress's surface observatory.

Month of Slate

The King's coming. Preparations aneed to be made. In order to furnish his room with the highest quality goods, I uwill undertake the task of finding any artifact furniture and placing them in his room. Here is a list of the artifacts and their soon to be former locations:

Eshongamil, "Goodtrusted" the pink garnet weapon rack. In the Duchess's room.
Nicat Orshet, "The Chain of Cremation", a rope reed bag, Full of rat weed seeds in a seed bin.
Ozor Keshan, "The Subtlety of Flame" the felsite mechanism. Main component of a lever in Dadam's office. Records indicate that this opens the floodgates feeding the well/magma water. Since another lever has been built for this purpose, this one will be removed. I'm sure he won't mind.
Nåzomnîles Lòråm Tulon, "Dreamsstrap the Cathedral of Roads" the aluminum hatch cover. In a stockpile.
Muzish Atêsh "The Martyr of Radiance", a felsite throne. In the Duchess's office.
Amuddakas Adgingegeb, "Thundercolors the Sunny Young Bulb", a gneiss floodgate. One of the floodgates separating the waterfall system from the river. This one will be tricky.
Ikalnekol, "The Healing Skull", a microcline hatch cover. In the artifact room.
Zatamsosh, "Cloutedsandal", a pyrite armor stand. In iluogo's room.
Dogiketar, "Wadking" the gneiss bed. In an unoccupied bedroom.
Vathsithvagúsh, "The Square Killer", a green glass box. In the artifact room.

The plump helmets are piling up, so I have ordered all availiable dwarves to make lavish meals. Most of the artifacts are now waiting in the artifact room, with the exception of Nicat Orshet, which I can't seem to empty of seeds, and Amuddakas Adgingegeb.
The elves have finally left, and I think that Nicat Orshet may have been accidentally dumped into the magma dump. The artifact floodgate cannot be removed via normal methods, so we have to resort to plan M, otherwise known as "Use magma in such a way that it gets the job done or die trying,"
That plan failed too. I suppose the king won't have a nice artifact floodgate after all.

Month of Felsite

We had bought some animals from the elves, so I'd figure I'd put them to good use. We currently have an alligator, two giant jaguars and a giant leopard. These will be put on ropes around the outside of the fortress to deter intruders. Food was cluttering up the kitchens, so I dug out some food stockpiles above the dining room.
An advisor has told me that the king won't come until we make more offerings to the mountainhomes. This buys us some more time to create his room.
We have a large looking kimberlite vein on the bottom level where some exploratory mining seems to have been done by a previous leader. Diamond exploration will commence!

Month of Hematite

A carpenter started acting strange. He gathered some items and brought them to an unoccupied carpenter's workshop. He created Sôd Äkig, "The Mists of stretching", a wooden grate. Another item for the future king's room.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Humans arrived from Mizbomong, followed by an elven diplomat from Sethe Ifebo. We bought out all the stuff that they had that was useful (i.e. everything but crafts and human clothes) and offered them a bun full of exceptional and masterwork obsidian swords.
A modification was made to the obsidian maker to allow rainwater in addition to the well water. To my dismay, a nearby hematite vein has reached the boundary of the fortress's property and as such can't be mined further without incurring serious diplomatic penalties.

Month of Malachite

The elf left. The humans remain. I have decided to follow up on my previous work and locate the rest of the artifacts. Most were in various stockpiles, nine of which were sharing the same bin. One, Nentukvathem, "The Withered Saturninity", a goblin bone left gauntlet, is being worn by one one of the champions. Ilidkol Tögum Lek, "Ruledwheels the Verse of Bristles" the bismuth bronze warhammer was in an old garbage dump by the so-called "Graves of the Damned". I honestly have no clue why they're called that.
Plans have been laid out for a new row of magma workshops, following the conduit to the magma dump. This will take a lot of work, as we're digging between rivers of water and magma and the miners stop everytime we hit warm or damp stone
The humans finally left, without most of their stuff. Immigrants elved out this season, saying they were too nervous. I say you've never felt nervous until you've dug out a wall only to find a swarm of magma behind it. Does magma come in swarms? I mean, it's more annoying than flies and comes in larger amounts, but at least it can't fly. Or can it?

Glad you liked the story.

May I sign up for another tour in this illustrious fortress?
I expect it'll take a few months but anyway.

Month of Galena
There was an accident today. Whilst channelling digging out some obsidian, the magma pipe was breached, killing all of the miners and a few smiths. The furnaces are lost.
More tragedy. A goblin siege arrived. Sent out our two squads, but they got slaughtered by marksgoblins before they could get a chance to defend. We had to shut the gates, locking about ten dwarves outside to be mercilessly picked off by the ruthless invaders.
We're in for it now. A misdesignated lever opened a floodgate to the river flooding most of the fortress roughly thirty or so dwarves were able to make it  to the statue garden above the entrance. I was able to tell a few to bring picks with them, so we might be able to start anew.

Spoilered for spoilery reasons.

Besides, how do you kill your miners in magma while channeling?

Didn't fool me for a second either.  I already tried tunneling in certain forbidden areas, and found really big frogs.

Yes, believe it or not, I'm still paying attention to this thread.  A few months from now it might even be my turn again, assuming all forts here aren't abandoned with the next update.

The Real Month of Galena
A snakeman somehow made it into our main stockpile. He was quickly dispatched by one of the guards.
The rain collection system for the obsidian maker is complete, as well our 16 new magma forges and smelters (8 each).
An alchemist's laboratory, a dyer's shop, a tanner's shop, and a millstone have been constructed.  Another general stockpile is being dug, and there are plans for a "Massive Architectural Lending Ledge" or MALL.

So yeah, I just caught up with the story.
The whole thing is awesome. Just a suggestion: any floor space wider than 3 tiles at the edge of the map can be used by siegers and traders to enter the map.
You can build bridges up to the edge of the map.
The cave river is wider than 3 spaces.
It is dwarven to be completely underground.

I'll let you lot piece those together by yourself.

Month of Limestone
The construction of the MALL is underway. It will be a two level complex containing sixteen brass shops. The top floor, which is a level below where the current shops are, will have ten shops on either side of a balcony, overlooking the six shops below. There are also plans in place for some certain features that are sure to be showered with praise.
Merchants from the mountainhomes arrived. I offered them most of our masterwork obsidian swords.
