Sorry, I don't really have an explanation for leaving this in the dry for so long. Inability to focus and guilt from not doing anything making for an illogical feedback loop, I guess. I can't really say I'm now in a state to finish up the rules, either.

You shouldn't be feeling guilty, or trying to GM out of guilt. that just doesn't work. It's fine.

See, I'm not trying to leverage guilt, I'm trying to work despite it because I do want to be making something and it'd be rude to get this far with P&P and then turn around and make something else.

Oh, well in that case, why not just narrate what the current design roadblocks you're running into are? maybe we can help with ideas to get around writer's block?

I feel fairly confident in the design I've got in my head. >.< It's largely a matter of getting myself to actually type things out (taking powers mostly from the last game) and making sure they're balanced and how I want them to be.

Todo is...
  • Copy powers from here, rebalancing for the new system and adding flavor where I can.
  • Make a table of effects for bad Push rolls / other magical and arcane mishaps. I had one before but it may have been lost due to being secret. This time I may just leave it publicly viewable?
  • Some finishing touches for classes, with 0, 2, and 4 cost heroes for both sides. Also not quite satisfied with the arcane gunner, might just change it to "any Exo weapon" and give them better armor but an Arcane upkeep cost.

Seems like stuff like that is better if the player doesn't know about it.

Also not quite satisfied with the arcane gunner, might just change it to "any Exo weapon" and give them better armor but an Arcane upkeep cost.
So generally the purpose behind a heavy-weapons individual is to handle some kind of threat that a normal trooper doesn't handle well. There's four common variations, you've got your marksman-type (I know people don't usually think of them as heavy-weapons-users but their purpose is the same.), your anti-armor type, your anti-group type, and your anti-structure type.

marksman-types are useful to provide the suppressing threat of a sniper as part of a given squad, and also to deal with enemies that are behind cover and can only be pinpoint-targeted. They're the lowest-investment-required version of heavy-weapon in terms of equipment, but the extra training they require tends to make them actually the most expensive to field overall. They are the most versatile of choices to bring, but also frankly the worst at most jobs. a squad marksman isn't going to have as good of cover as a prepared sniper, and will likely lose a sniping 1v1, they can suppress yes, but not as well as a LMG can. However, they are also the only heavy-weapons type that doesn't have a mobility problem from equipment weight, and do provide the widest variety of options to solve problems.

anti-armor types are where you get your rocket-laucher types, but they also include minelayers, and even just general demolitions and other explosive handlers. They are good against armor, yes, but they're also good at shaping terrain in general. You want a bunker, building, or bridge gone? they're on-hand to just solve the problem.

anti-group types are where you get your LMG types. They have rapid-fire weapons that can keep a large area suppressed simultaniously. They're also actually very useful for dealing with snipers because their continuous fire over the entire area the sniper is operating out of can keep them suppressed while the rest of the squad moves up close to clear them out.

anti-structure types are not actually the same as your anti-armor types. This is where you get assault-type weapons. Grenade launchers to lob a ball of death or even simple smoke through a window or behind other cover, flamethrowers to cook entire rooms at once with streams of liquid flame that splash and spray off walls to fry any corners you might try to lay an ambush in, or even simple SMG or carbines to move fast and handle extremely well in close-quarters, these individuals are well-equipped to clear out the interior of heavy-cover areas WITHOUT just trying to demolish the entire thing outright. They also have a significant ammo advantage over the anti-armor types, being able to carry enough to handle several separate problem areas in sequence instead of only having one or two rocket tubes.

Anyway, the point of all this is: What is the purpose of the arcane gunner?

Probably any number of roles, they're currently defined by carrying arcane rather than by what they actually do. Might split that class up and just generally give heavy weapons classes an arcane supply.

Will post mission 1 thread soon. For this mission there will be no hero units, just grunts vs grunts.

Also, I'm giving RC and Leng 2 FP each for their help. Thank you.

Well I went and made a discord icon for no reason but I guess it's too tiny inside of discord to fully appreciate the 'beauty' of the details, so have it here.

Perhaps you'll be able to understand what's depicted. :v

That one might not exist any more. I haven't shown the P&&&P discord anywhere yet, I nearly ran a test fight on there but then I got tired and went to bed instead. So really making an icon only served the purpose of making some "art" for now.

Naturally, people like discord servers so I may clean it up and link it here soonish.

Grey thing seems to be a Haemic Corp dogtag of some unlucky bloke.

Thing above it also has a dogtag look given the chain, but seems to have a weird shape for one (then again, hammer shape would make sense given the name). So could also be a pendant or necklace maybe. Kinda looks like there's fresh red blood coming out of the black rift thingie, but might just be funnily placed bloodsplatters.
