Standard, of course not. But Ciaphas Cain is also a commissar.

Yes. Obviously.

Basically, there’s a distinction between a mercy kill where not doing so immediately is immediately going to start problems (BLAM) and morale issues where there’s definitely solutions available with more lasting effect than shooting the panicked soldier or what-have-you.

The commissar is supposed to keep discipline. Fear is one way to accomplish that, and it may even be the easiest way, but it is not the best way.

Standard, of course not. But Ciaphas Cain is also a commissar.

One of the Commissar's special skills in this game is the ability to execute a player's Comrade. This is basically meant to save the PCs life so that there isn't any bad blood between players and there is a mechanical reason for doing it. Would you do it?

Their second ability is to terrify your men into being more scared of you then a terrifying enemy, which also doesn't particularly fit you.

You could be a Ciaphas Cain like character if you really wanted, but there isn't a lot of mechanical backing. The "Actually good competent leader" shtick is mostly with the Sergeant specialty.

Yeah there is a weapon like that. But if you foamed someone on the battlefield the enemy would basically be able to insta-kill them so it wouldn't help much :V

Best Craftmanship refers to the Weapon Quality. By default weapons are Common quality, with bonuses or penalties for better or worse qualities. The best is Best quality, which in the case of a melee weapon gives +10 to attacks and +1 to damage. So you have a really fancy beating stick.

You get +5 WP from picking Psyker in the first place, so your end Willpower should be 44.

And I definitely screwed up earlier. For everyone. Sorry about that. Stormtrooper and Commissar are the only ones who don't get Comrades. I'm not entirely sure why I ever said it was for all specialists when I knew several had comrades.

So you do get a Comrade, who just needs a name and fluff. They'll be a normal non-psyker human.

Ah, I think I get the confusion. Not sure why they repeated the term "Characteristic Bonus" but you can tell that they're different things since in this context it is a +5, where in normal context it is a number by itself (like 4) without the +.

CBs are generally used for things that you don't have to roll for. They're basically your base for the characteristic. The "Characteristic Bonus +X" just means to add X to a characteristic.

It looks.. very complicated.  Is there any way to skip the whole spending XP and buying gear and stuff?  I'd also like to start with no fate points, if possible.

I (or anyone else) could spend your XP for you. Buying gear at this stage is basically picking out of a list of two or three options if that, but we could probably do it too. You'd still have to pick out a class and do the fluff at least.

Fate point is just rolling a 1d10, but if you never want to use it I guess that is up to you.

You'll be dealing with vehicles on account of owning a vehicle that can't really be threatened by enemy infantry (Rokkits can kinda threaten you but you can mince the orks firing them with your mounted weaponry). There isn't really a "No Class" option, trying to work one in would probably be more complicated then just picking one and going with it. If you want to roll up a new character we can always do that without your character actually needing to die to make it happen.

Mostly you're killing orks and what class you pick decides how specifically you're killing orks.

Yes. However, given

Could you tell me about the Sergeant and Enginseer specialties?

Sergeant: NCO leadership role. Their special ability is to give Sweeping Orders to everyone's Comrades, giving the entire squad a boost.

Enginseer: Repair Cyborg. Enginseers have unique cybernetic implants, otherwise their unique powers are fixing tech. Can take Servitor Commands on account of having a Servitor Comrade, which is a bit more complex in that you have to pick out a Servitor Model.

Your first Servitor will be a Lathe-patern Multitask servitor. It's special ability is that it can follow non-Servitor commands. You will be able to get a more specialized one later, but which one you can get is based off the Logistics stat.

9 wounds, and I guess I now have 35 intelligence.
1. What are aptitudes in this?
2. Is Logic its own skill? What’s it used for?
3. What do Cold Hearted and Technical Knock do?
4. Thinking utility for the mechadendrites, unless the parentheses are an “and” rather than “or”.
5. I think I need to figure out the altitudes before I decide on weapon training.
6. What mechadendrites are available?
7. What cybernetics are available?
8. What sort of stuff can I spend my XP on, and about how much can I get with the 300?
