(Also of note, I'll be merging Science and Chemistry, since that's how it has always been in my schools, and gives more things to do with Science class)
and thus you head to your first class, CYOGTCG Science. As you arrive the class is empty. Well, not empty certainly, there are mysterious devices all over surrounding the borders of the room, including the device that had been used to determine your theme. Rather it's empty of people, the teacher seems to be absent. You all take your seats and then...
KRAKATHOOM
The sound of thunder. Wichtel jumps, scrabbling under her chair.
"WELCOME STUDENTS!" a woman's voice speaks "TO YOUR DOO- wait wrong script."
A shuffling of papers is heard
"TO MY LABORATORY! MUAHAHAHAHAHAA!"
A woman with frazzled dark hair, pale skin, and a white lab coat descends from the ceiling on a platform behind the teachers desk. Glenn would recognize her from offhand comments from his parents. This woman goes by Doctor Malady, a self styled mad scientist(well, self styled scientist, the mad part not so much)
"I am DOCTOR MALADY, and today, you are going to be learning !!SCIENCE!!... they didn't let me rename the class."
Today, you learn about Triggers. Triggers are, effectively, the situation in which a cards effect activates. In particular, today you've learned the Combat trigger. Having a Combat trigger means that whatever effect the card has will trigger when it enters combat. As this is theoretically allows repeated activations with the right keywords or supporting cards, it tends to leave cards notably weaker, at least on the Attack front. Of course, all this explanation is told through analogies about various forms of "ray", in comparison to a simple deathray.
As an example of this, she fires her "delayed explosion ray". Shortly after, she realizes which ray she just fired, and you are evacuated from the classroom. Still, you get the chance to make a card using what you learned before the classroom was set to explode.
You can now force your card to have an effect that triggers from combat.
