With his traps set and nothing to do but wait for the fight to start, Rory drove his shield hard into the ground and jumped up onto the top edge, leaving his feet to dangle without a care as he did a final check of his gunlance.

Tsubasa follows Arint. On their arrival, the demon slayer just sort of sighs at the lineup of troops. Sure, there's more of them, and they look better trained overall, but she's probably the least dangerous member of the party and had effortlessly disassembled several. "I'm guessing they won't talk, either."

From behind Tsubasa feels something poking her with increasing insistency until she finally turns to see Rory sitting on his shield. The faunus holds a finger to his lips before nodding to Arint and gesturing to get her (and presumably the other barons) back. After he was sure she got the message and their allies were moving, Rory started silently counting down on his fingers, five... four... three...

Tsubasa

Tsubasa nods after a glance at Rory. She speaks under her breath, not leaning over to whisper as to be less obvious. "You and everyone else need to get back a few steps." If Arint resists, she'll insistently pull her back without elaborating.

The bandit's eyes widen just before the bombs go off.

When the smoke and dust clear, there's not much left of her - or the rest of the people who were with her. But even as some Spree back away from the remains of their comrades, more step forth - including a hulking Jarackle with Spark Baron gear and a cybernetic arm, and a bandit with a missing chunk of his left cheek and two bladed gauntlets on his forearms.

The man with the bladed gauntlets smiles a little as he approaches. His eyes glance over to Rory. "You the one who set that up? You're clever, I'll give you that."

Arint's eyes narrow. "Nadan. What's the endgame? Seize Grout Bog, take over operations with the help of the turncoats, and control the market for Spark?"

Nadan just nods in return. "That's exactly right. When an opportunity presents itself, you take it before it slips through your fingers. Otherwise, you starve. That's how it is for everyone, from the lowliest goon to the highest bigwig. Even you."

"Nice speech," Arint says. "Are you going to kill us with poetry?"

"Don't tempt me. I'll mess you up with a sonnet."

Nadan and the Jarackle settle into a fighting stance. Some of the Spree hang back, crossbows and blasters raised, while others spread out and prepare to jump into the fray when the opportunity presents itself.

The hunter dropped behind his shield before the bombs went, popping up on the other side with a cheeky grin that quickly turned into a grimace as he wasn't entirely prepared for that to have pasted... well, anyone. Welp, not the first time he went with the "safe" option and it blew up, so to speak. Pulling his shield from the dirt and his lance from his back, Rory approached Nadan. "Gotta say, you're pretty well prepared for this. What'd you promise your uh, friends there? Riches, power... Ooh, was it revenge? That one was always my favorite little white lie."

Friedhold & Nessa

As the dust of the explosion began to settle Friedhold pushed himself up from his covered and stepped out to hear Nadan's speech, then moved to follow Rory, staying a few paces behind the Hunter.

"You have made a grave miscalculation.  We have no ultimate interest in the worldly ambitions of this...place, but we cannot leave until our business in The Bog is complete.  You have two options, armistice for three days while we complete our business then you may return here and conclude your own," Friedhold raises his left arm, putting his hand in front of himself as it takes on an ethereal cast, smearing through space and growing more and more transparent until his hand ceases to be somewhere around his wrist.
"Or stay here and your force will be annihilated to-the-man as we bring to bear aspects of reality you are yet unready to understand."

By that point Ehto had moved to the front to watch the fireworks. She only had a brief moment to savor the scent of roasted and blasted meat before she noticed the others weren't actually fighting yet. Which was unfortunate, bandits had always been among her favorite prey. But perhaps better in the long run regardless, if they truly did scare them into capitulation for now.

"I know bandits like you aren't very bright, so I'll lay out just how futile your plan here is: The Boggers and their High Priest are cavorting with forces that have no place in your world, and that corruption is what's been driving the wildlife crazy. Even if you somehow killed everyone here- which you won't -without losing most of what men you have left, you would fold like the pathetic thieves, rapists and murderers you are the moment they finally crawled out of their lair to conquer the bog proper. You just lost a decent chunk of your people without even loosing a single shot, and the only way the rest of you are walking out of this alive is if you turn around and leave under your own power. Right now. Because I won't have mercy on you, and neither will the unnatural horrors unleashed by the Boggers."

The Demon Slayer elected to remain silent, her only response to the exchange being a roll of her eyes. Neither fear nor existential threats seemed to dissuade them, so it was unlikely anything she could think to say would work. The scraps of blasted bandit hadn't even settled yet, but even that didn't give this man's greed a pause.

Fortunately, she was used to foes that didn't negotiate.

The bandits are clearly not in the mood to listen. They raise their weapons at Ehto, and a few split from the crowd to attack her.

“You wouldn’t be the first unnatural creatures we’ve felled.”
Nadan points a finger at Friedhold and Nessa, and some of the bandits seem to focus their attention on them. He then darts towards Ehto and Rory, performing a series of punches that mess up their defenses.

Nadan hits Ehto 3 times for 5 damage each, also applying 3 Exposed and reducing her DR by 3 (now 4).

Nadan also hits Rory 3 times for 5 damage each, also applying 3 exposed and reducing his DR by 3 (now -3).

The bandits don’t seem impressed by Rory’s attempt to turn them against their employer.

Spree Captain A joins the battle!

Arint takes a deep breath as her chest piece begins to light up.

Arint gains 1 Charge and is now Guarding.

Sparky throws a grenade, blasting Arint, Friedhold and Nessa, and Ehto.

Sparky’s grenade hits Arint for 23 damage, Friedhold and Nessa for 23 damage (4 points stopped by the Armored Gene Shell Tonic), and Ehto for 29 damage.

Friedhold’s taunting draws out some more Spree.

Having been decked repeatedly in the face, Ehto dropped her humanoid form along with any pretense of ending this without dozens of bodies littering the ground. "Maybe, but I'll certainly be the last."

She vanished from where she stood, leaving Arint to appear in her place, and pounced upon the man from out of his own shadow. Her fangs dug greedily into the flesh of his shoulder as her claws sought purchase in-between his ribs.

Ehto's cloak automatically nullifies the stacks of Exposed on her.

Ehto casts Shadowstrut on Arint as a free action, granting her first strike this round! She gains Might.

Ehto mauls Nadan, inflicting 6d10+(14) Physical/Slashing damage, healing herself for half the damage dealt, and consuming Might to inflict him with a stack of Shredded (Lowers DR by (6) per stack, converts to % if target DR is percent based, negative DR directly increases damage dealt to them). She gains Sorcery.

"Begone"
Friedhold gestures and an ethereal light envelopes Nadan, it's result uncertain.

Friedhold uses Empowered Oblivion Fraying on Nadan.  If Nadan's Int is equal or greater than Friedhold's [14] he loses [14] Int and Friedhold gains it for the duration of combat.  If his Int is less than [14], he makes an opposed Int check against Friedhold, but rolls twice and takes the lower result, if he fails he's Banished.  He may repeat the save at the same disadvantage on following rounds, after [3] rounds of being Banished he returns regardless of save.
This costs 3 Adam and 2 or 4 Eve.

Rory

Rory takes the punches on the chin, metaphorically. He was surprised by how hard Nadan was hitting his shield, and equally surprised when the light engulfed Nadan. Deciding he had better things to worry about Rory pointed his lance at Sparky. "And why the hell did you get picked to be head goon? If you were any good in a scrap you wouldn't be down a couple of limbs and a coupla' balls!"

Rory uses Armed and Ready on Sparky

Harden:  Getting hit activates Rory’s semblance. For every 25% of his max HP he loses, Rory gains lvl/2 DR.

Huntsman Basics:  Rory takes no fall damage. Additionally, he can carve materials from enemies which grant effects related to the enemy.

Flaw: Repositioning:  Every consecutive turn spent attacking lowers Rory’s Initiative by 3. He can't hit enemies that have 15 more Initiative than him.

Actions:

Wyrmstake Launcher: A modification added to gunlances that allows for the launching of a Wyrmstake, obviously. Deals 1d6+STR damage to the target applies a burn that deals 1d6 damage for 3 turns, and deals 1d6+Dex Damage after the burn wears off.
     Lvl 1: Applies a Burn that deals 1d6 damage for 3 turns and deals an additional 1d6+Dex damage after the burn wears off.
     Lvl 2 Boop: Deals 1d6 damage to the target as well.
     LVL 3: Increased initial damage by +STR

Caffeine:  Rory spends the turn getting back into position, increasing his Initiative by his 1.5*Dex.
    Level 1: Increases Initiative by Rory’s Dex
    Level 2: Further increases Initiative by 1.5X Dex

Armed and Ready!:  Rory Taunts an enemy, forcing them to attack him for 6 rounds and attacks from enemies other than the one taunted by Rory have their damage reduced by his Level. Only works on one enemy at a time.
    Level 1: Taunt a single enemy for a round, only works on one enemy.
    Level 2-5: +1 round of taunt. Total of six rounds of taunt.
    Level 6: Attacks from enemies other than the one taunted by Rory have their damage reduced by his Level.

I Burn: Every two attacks in a row Rory Unloads the gun in his Lance dealing +3d6 damage against his target.
    Lvl1: When Rory attacks 2 times in a row his Second attack deals an additional 2d6 damage.
    Lvl2: Unloading deals an additional 1d6

I May Fall: Rory bolsters himself, Giving himself +20 Temporary HP in return for losing 1 DR for two Rounds.  (This can make his DR negative causing him to take more damage from each attack.)
    LvL1: Rory loses 2 DR and gains 10 temp HP for two rounds.
    Level 2: BUT NOT LIKE THIS!: +5 Temp HP.
    Level 3 IT WON’T BE BY YOUR HANDS: +5 Temp HP

Bad Luck Charm: Desperate times call for desperate measures. Which of course means Rory takes a moment to hurt himself and bolster his resolve. Rory takes Con Damage and after 2 turns regains 2x the damage taken.
    Level 1: Rory takes Con Damage and after 3 turns regains 1.5x the damage taken.
    Level 2: Heal is increased to 2x the damage taken.
    Level 3: Reduce time before the heal by 1 turn.

Defend: Rory Blocks, taking 50% of the damage dealt to him.

 

Equipment:
Lúin of Celtchar: An Iron Gunlance, looking like someone made a big Revolver, put it on a stick, and then strapped an equally large Bayonet to it. 4d4+STR damage.

Shield:  “A sturdy Iron Shield, typically not something worn by hunters due to the huge amount of Strength their enemies bring to bear. However most Hunters aren’t Fucking Invincible.” -Rory +3 DR while Guarding and can’t be affected by movement based effects.

Kulu Armor: A set of armor with a “Desert Nomad” theme, consisting of mainly light browns and reds. The face is mainly covered by a red Head Scarf with the rest of the body being covered except for the biceps. +1 DR against Fire attacks, Friendly Effects are 10% more potent, and checks for moving while carrying things are reduced by 2.

TURN 2

Ehto moves Arint into position for her to unleash a blindingly bright beam at Nadan and some of the other Spree. As this is happening, Ehto then dives on Nadan from behind and tears at his defenses.

Arint deals 16 damage to Nadan, 24 damage to Spree Thief B, and 24 damage to Spree Thug A. Nadan, Spree Thief B, and Spree Thug A all become Dazzled for the next turn.

Ehto inflicts 26 damage to Nadan, healing herself for 13 damage and using her Might to inflict Shredded, reducing Nadan’s DR by 6. She gains Sorcery.

Tsubasa deepens her focus amidst the fevered pitch of battle.

Tsubasa now has 3 Concentration.

One of the thieves snaps a shot at Rory’s legs with a hand crossbow, hindering his movements.

Spree Thief A deals 15 damage and reduces Rory’s INIT by 3. Rory heals back 1 point of damage from his Aura.

The other thief fires at Ehto with her own crossbow, trying to slow down the shadowy creature just a little bit.

Spree Thief B deals 5 damage and reduces Ehto’s INIT by 3.

Nadan shakes off Ehto, then, with a yell and a hand signal, draws the Spree around himself and Sparky, shouting, “Keep your guard up!”.

Nadan assigns Spree Thief A, Spree Captain A, and Spree Arsonist A to Overwatch Duties for Nadan. Spree Thief B, Spree Thug A, and Spree Arsonist B are on Overwatch for Sparky.

Nadan increases the DR of all enemies by 2.

Rory’s words get Sparky’s full attention. His grin takes on a wicked edge.

Rory Taunts Sparky for 6 turns. If an enemy other than Sparky attacks Rory, they deal 6 less damage.

Spree Captain A twirls his clubs, then smacks Friedhold with a series of rapid strikes that leave him reeling.

Spree Captain A hits Friedhold and Nessa for 16 damage, stunning them until the start of the next turn.

Spree Thug A revs up his gauntlets. The blades glisten in the moonlight.

Spree Thug A gains 5 Revved Up.

Sparky shouts, “Your purity won’t save you, grifter!” as he leaps at Rory in a body slam.

Sparky deals 26 damage to Rory and also Impairs Rory for 3 turns, reducing Rory’s damage output by 33%. Rory restores 3 HP from his Aura. Rory also gains 3 DR from his semblance, Harden!

Sparky then settles into a low stance as his cybernetic arm changes shape and begins to charge up...

Sparky enters into a Low Stance and gains 1 Charge.

Spree Arsonist A throws a firebomb at Tsubasa, but she deftly dodges out the way.

Hawkeyed Tsubasa dodges Spree Arsonist A’s attack!

Spree Arsonist B throws a firebomb at Arint, lighting her and Rory on fire.

Spree Arsonist B deals 13 damage to Arint and 7 damage to Rory, inflicting 5 Burn on both of them. Rory heals 1 HP due to his Aura.

Friedhold staggers about, stunned, before coming back to his senses.

Friedhold is Immune to Stuns for the next turn.

Tsubasa gains another point of Focus for not receiving damage this turn.
