Godstrike 120mm Howitzer Model 1901

A 120mm artillery piece designed to out-range Duchy Moron fieldguns and harass Duchy Idiots who hide in trenches like Fucking Cowards.

The howitzer rolls about on two wheels with a hitch allowing it to be rapidly towed from place to place by horse.  It features a gun shield, hydro-pneumatic recoil system and an interrupted screw breech.  The Godstrike primarily fires HE shells, which are packaged in complete powder+shell brass casings. A compass embedded in the frame allows the gunners to determine azimuth of the gun, and a handcrank matched to a notched ranging strip allows the gunners to determine angle.  The barrel is quite long for artillery, sitting at 1.8 meters.  Fire rate is expected to be (with a decently skilled crew) 1 round every 6 seconds. Elevation can exceed 45 degrees, but the angle notches do not go that far.

Dice Gods Say: You get a 5.

The Godstrike Howitzer is quite the marvel of heavy ordinance. The 120mm HE shells prove adequate in destroying mock fortifications though the fixed powder load makes aiming at extreme and near ranges difficult as the powder load can't be increased or decreased in the field. The expected fire rate can be achieved but only for a short period of time as the weapon eventually needs to be allowed to cool, though the loaders usually tire out after around 12 consecutive rounds are fired resulting in a more average fire rate. Most crew prefer to keep up an average and efficient fire rate.

It is now the Revision Phase as well as time to submit your regimental banner though you've already done that. I'll be nice and hold off on rolling the dice for the revision phase until the royals submit one or declare forfeit.

Quote from: Uul Ganaa 75mm L/12 (Mountain Cannon)
This revision of the Ganaa uses the same shells, breech and a similar barrel, but reworks the mount and furniture entirely. The entire cannon can be disassembled and carried by a team of 5-10 men, preferably but not necessarily with the help of a couple pack mules. The mount is new, and has a crank for precise elevation up to 80 degrees. The rest of the mount can be disassembled into pieces each no heavier than 20kg. The breech can be disassembled from the barrel (hopefully it already can), and the recoil piston can be separated from the barrel as well. The barrel itself is only 900mm in length (or as short as our testing finds to be suitable). Its new capacity for high-angle shots allows it to be used from safe positions inside trenches and close to the enemy, or in mountainous terrain. Assembly should hopefully be doable inside of 15 minutes, and most parts are standardized to bolt together with a wrench and 20mm head bolts for this purpose. Oh yeah, it would also be nice to stop the breech from exploding, but if we can't do that we'll just tell the men to abandon them after 100 firings or something. If the barrel needs to be thicker, this should be accomplished with a separate sleeve which can be removed from the barrel for transport. Hopefully we can just use better quality metal.

Witchfire Quick Exchange barrel would also be a reasonable revision.

I think I'd want to shelve it for now, since it may be better to make a heavy caliber HMG, but we could do a witchfire revision of this nature:

Quote from: Heavy Witchfire
The Heavy Witchfire is an alternate version of the Witchfire designed to sustain fire for as long as possible. The barrel is considerably heavier and fitted with a water jacket, which can be flushed easily. The gun is mounted on a tripod instead of a bipod, for added stability. Lastly, the largest change is that the gun is modified to accept disintegrating belts which hold the cartridges in half-moon clips. The belt moves across the top of the gun, and each time the belt moves, a round is forced downwards and out of the belt sideways by an angled guide, leaving it in the top of the receiver just as if it had exited a pan magazine. The gun's charging handle is replaced with a large-dowel style handle so that users can exert greater force on it easily.
Quick-change barrels would be a good choice for this sort of gun, but I foresee a lot of potential fitment issues with the gas port and piston. A simpler solution might involve simply making larger magazines, but I think that just handling barrel heat while changing nothing else is thinking too small.

Joining the confederation.

I think artillery reliability is a prioirty. We cant live with a disadvantage in artillery.

I mean, that's not really true. Once you're dug in you can live with quite a substantial disadvantage in artillery, particularly if you are strong in other areas.

I'm not sure it's the absolute best move, but we can double down on artillery. Hopefully lessons learned in the design of our Godfire cannon will make it easy to fix the problems with the Ganaa.

If there isn't a more pressing issue (and if there is, the smart money is on an SMG design) I would like to design artillery spotting balloons. That would be the first step on the path to air power at this early stage in the game, and it would be fun to do something a little different.

We don't write any details for revisions? Just roll some dice?

Uh, no, this is the design being voted for.

Though an Arms Race where the GM just makes stuff up based on the name of the design would be interesting(and probably short/sighted)

Artillery Barge
A variant of the basic Transport Barge with some artillery pieces on the deck, trading troop and equipment capacity for artillery and ammunition stowage. It incorporates a couple of our 120mm howitzers and a quartet of our 75mm howitzers and can use them for shore support or, if you're really, really, really, REALLY desperate, fighting other naval units.

Sometimes simplicity is a benefit, and the surprise factor of "oh hey they've got usable artillery on their boats" might do us some good, more so than ANOTHER variant of artillery.
