+1, dehydration is not good
+1, why walk when there's ample drink right here?

The two of you drink from the creek.  Willis is a bit worried, but after you show him it's okay, he drinks too.  You can't really taste it much, you're drinking too quickly, but it does quench your thirst.

You end up heading over to Willis's family house for the evening meal, and promise to meet up several times during the rest of the week.  His family does seem fairly neat, but they always seem tired when you come over, so you know they're happy to have you play with him.  They're weavers, and you know that for them the busy season is winter, where they spend pretty much all day doing boring work making clothes for most of the rest of the village.  It's also why Willis goes and lives with his city family.. too much energy to sit around all winter without messing everything up.

Over the course of the following weeks, the two of you enjoy your summer together, going out most days to play in one way or another, exploring the woods, running through the village, chasing stray dogs until they get tired, doing some fishing and some rafting, and generally enjoying the summer.

..but as the end of summer nears, you have some more serious discussions.  It seems Willis's family wants him to take up a trade and start earning his own way through life, so this might be the last free summer you have together.  He's kind of ambivalent about what he wants to do going forward, and as your friend, wants your advice.

What do you tell him?

You should use your energy and your brains and be a copper.  You can track down crooks, hunt bandits, and you'd get to learn to fight!

You should be a sailor!  You get to be at sea all the time, and although they make you work hard, you'll do well there.  You could rise to be a captain and make your fortune at sea.  You're tough enough for the life.

You should be an explorer and adventurer.  You can use your quick thinking and speed to be a tomb raider or a looter, and recover all kinds of treasure.  Like Uncle, but you can get more recent and modern stuff.

You should be an explorer and adventurer.  You can use your skill at arms and strength to be an escort, where you protect people like Uncle, and fight monsters to keep them safe.

You both know that you'd like to learn battle magic, but neither of you can afford the money to get training in it.

"Yeah, that's right, tobbing tombs is great.  You get to see all the best stuff, and you get to keep what you find!"

"Although.. there are ghosts sometimes!"

"Pfft, I aint scared of no ghost!"

Well, Willis seems up for the idea.

It's a few months later, Willis has left back to the city, and things are starting to get ready for the harvest.  Uncle is out, but he's due back any day now.

Today you've spent some time fishing, and have managed to catch some, which should make a good dinner.  There's food, but fresh stuff is always better.

But, as you are heading back towards your home, something feels.. off.  It's like the Thaumulator.  But you know Uncle has been keeping it in his new shed because it makes you feel funny, so you shouldn't be feeling anything like it, as you walk through the village.

Now that you're suspicious, you see that there's a stranger about on the street, someone not from the village, who is standing there in old, dirty clothing.  That's odd, but not that strange, you know there's generally a few people who come up here looking for work during the harvest.

The feeling passes as you leave that guy behind, but it begins again when you approach your house.  There's another person there, someone who looks similar to the other fellow in the town.

What do you do?

"A duck!"

"What?"

"You're a duck!"

As you see the wave of confusion roll over the vagrant's eyes, you know you've won.

"Look, you have to be a duck.  If you weigh as much as a witch, you're a duck!"

Your target speechless, you press on.

"But I don't have a witch.  So to see if you weigh as much as a witch, I need something else."

You look up at the guy, confident, and stare into his eyes.  That squirmy feeling goes through you again, it's definately making you feel uncomfortable.  You bear up under it, showing nothing.

"So.. what weighs as much as a witch?"

"..."

"That's right, lots of things.  But we know witches float, so we don't need any items, we just need water."

You then sort of grab the guy and start pushing him somewhat viciously along, towards the woods.

"And what do we have over here, but a pond!  A duck pond too!  In you go, duck!"

-Splash!-

Well, what next?
