So, in my current fort, I live on a vault. This comes with the obvious benefit of divine metal, but also something I didn't realize until I looked around the structure itself: slade. The vault is made of it, which I'm sure many of you know, though of course slade stones aren't that much more useful than their regular counterparts. However, it's not that slade I'm curious about. No, I'm curious about slade
bars. My vault (and perhaps all vaults) have four vertical bars within them, made from slade. I've successfully infiltrated and stolen one of these bars, and it's honestly pretty majestic. Unlike any other type of metal bar, it cannot be used to forge anything (though I can designate it to be melted), but unlike misc bars like soap, it can be used as a metal bar in creation of artifacts, to glorious effect.
This is what I used the bar I've been able to obtain on:
Glorious, but there's only four bars in the vault, and I can't make bars from the boulders, of course! Which leaves me with my question:
Can I make more slade bars? Bars only melt for 0.5 bars in return, but I feel like there's some way to abuse the melt glitch to get more of this wondrous material. Artifact slade armor would be truly glorious thanks to the importance of density in guarding against blunt damage, and I'd love to be able to make more than four slade warhammers, which is my current plan for the stuff. It's the perfect artifact material. But I can't think of any way to do so outside of just regularly cheating them in with DFhack or editing the raws. So, melt glitch or otherwise, how might I get more bars of a material that I can't use, if that's even possible? I'm willing to cheat in most any way other than DFhack or raws-engineering.
Anything, even if it's somewhat far-fetched, is appreciated. I can't say I'm expecting to find a way to do this, but who knows?
