I'm just saying that the media shouldn't be only source talking about a story. With Covid you had the organizations like the WHO and CDC making statements. And let's not forget about the testimony of Chinese citizens on WeChat during the early days when China was trying to cover up the existence of the virus. COVID was a story that was dying to be told.

I can't afford to let myself get invested in every catastrophe the media is talking about, especially when it's something I have no control over. That's gonna wreck your mental health. So for the sake of my sanity, I really have no choice but to ignore it until it becomes a more active part of my life.

It's stuff like this that makes me hate modern news media, because I want to be informed, I want to know what's going on around me, but they add so much junk in with the real stories that consuming too much of it literally makes you sick.

I don't think that's the first case reported. Avian influenza has been reported in humans before IIRC. Perhaps in Canada it's the first case, that is possible.
It's slightly worrisome. Let's hope it doesn't get airborne beyond bird wings.

No, but be cautious. Disease outbreaks are surprisingly commonplace - even right now there is a measles outbreak in Canada, monkey pox outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cholera outbreak in Zambia and Dengue Fever outbreak in Pakistan. Bird flus and swine flus with their accompanying mass culls of animals also happens globally on an occasional but semi-regular basis. It takes the right kind of conditions to have a global plague. Human to human transmission of bird flu has been very rare and there has not yet been any cases of sustained transmission, as bird flu is not very well adapted to mammals. It's also good that this case was spotted and reported, since the way these things are allowed to spread and mutate amongst human populations is if it goes unspotted, untreated or unreported
