A message to Count Jerick: The Duke of This Land, The Fantastic Count Fox does not wish to eliminate a honorable peer of the realm such as yourself, and would offer terms for vasslahod instead. If such a deal was accepted, the honorable count would see XXX returned, as long as 30%(rounding down) of your income is paid to the Duke Fox. Additionally, any land taken from count Shadowclaw would be returned (XXI)

I must ask; what are the mechanical implications when becoming someone's vassal?

Would you be interested in an alliance DolosusDoleus?

Hmmmmm. What would I get in return for signing an alliance with one of you and not the other?

Does that make scientific sense? No? Well it's Earth IV and he's a giant crocodile-man. Use your imagination.

I am winning, and more likely to continue winning, thus requiring no contribution from you.

RuleOfNothing is losing, requiring you to lend him substantial support, which would hinder your own plans and still not guarantee his victory.

I suppose you are right. I don't suppose you would be interested in my vassalage (after you become a king of course)?
(If I remember correctly vassals give a percentage of their income to their overlord)

I would be willing to accept your vassalage. I will require all the territories ringing the lake in order to complete my dark ritual as tribute.

What percentage of my income do you want?

How does vassalage work, exactly? Can a vassal break their vassalhood, or can only the overlord do that?  Depending on the answer, anywhere from 10% to 50%.

I don't think anyone has wanted to be a vassal before. Cool.

So the rules are going to be:
Vassal owes a portion of their income to their suzerain (NPC vassals always pay 50%) that is set during vassalage and can be changed if both players agree.
It costs an action to vassalize and it costs an action to break away.
Vassal and suzerain are considered to be allied.
Vassals may not attack their suzerain, or provide defense for her enemies. (This means also on the turn they break off)
Finally vassal lands count towards land requirements for title acquisition.

Additional rule: players may destroy their own titles, and lower their rank at will (no action required, effective at the start of turn resolution.) I.e. if you need to go down a rank to get vassalized, you can do that straight away.

Does the suzerain need to be a rank higher in order for the vassalization?
Could the suzerain go up a rank the same turn the accept a vassal?
For forming a kingdom; do I have to have 60 points to create my second Duchy AND my kingdom? Or since it all happens the same turn do I only need 50 points (as required for kingdoms)?

Yes. One or more ranks higher.
They can rank up to accept the new vassal (f.e.: become a king, and on the same turn accept a duke vassal) they can't rank up from his lands on the same turn- too many moving parts.
You can't create a kingdom on the same turn you make your second duchy. You could in the old game, and that took the decision element out of your turn- just use all your actions to rank up.

I see.

@RulerOfNothing: if you're willing to accept vassalhood next turn and hand over XXXVI and XXVIII, I'll waive tribute for the amount you invested in those territories and facilitate your expansion elsewhere.

Form Second Duchy: Duchy of Jelly.

Attack XXXVI.
