Okay, so issues:

The hunger bar is not depleting
No enemies are spawning
Japa pulled a Human Torch and walked unscathed through magma
And though I explored quite a bit, no structures.

uhhhhhh I might have accidentally reset the server to peaceful mode. It is now back on normal.

The structures are enabled, though, so they should be spawning in new chunks. It might be that the map is just pretty big already.

Do you have shaders installed? If so, can you pass on the information?

Those screenshots take me back to when I first played minecraft. I would play for hours and hours and there was always a special feeling when you came back to your home after a long journey out, with your backpack full of ore and treasure. Seeing those lights in the darkness reminded me of the secluded hideouts I always built.

I can conclusively say that structures are not enabled.

I downloaded the latest version of NBTExplorer (.zip version.) I opened the world file Araph provided, browsed to level.dat -> Data -> MapFeatures, changed that from a 0 to a 1, and saved.

I loaded the world in Minecraft, then located an underwater structure (success!) and noted down its coordinates. When I checked those coordinates on the server, there was nothing to be found. You didn't accidentally change level.dat_old instead, did you Araph?

What texture pack is that? Does it have redstone particles that don't look like there's blood spurting out of pulled levers? Haven't been able to find a good texture pack for the current version.

It's vanilla that makes the levers do red sparks, I believe.

That, or maybe the server needs some kind of write permission to modify files... Maybe Araph changed it from 0 to 1, saved the file, but the server didn't accept the changes, and no error message was displayed.

Going back into this server after a long absence.

I'm impressed by the railroad that's been set up!

And I'm already not sure what I want to build...

EDIT:

Decided I'm going to build up the ranch I set up not far from Fort Squidward - IIRC I named it "Brightsun Ranch" "Brightplain Ranch". I didn't mark it on the map since it's already close to another marked location and currently consists of only one building and two crops, but hopefully that'll change in the coming weeks.

A creeper blew up the back of the First Hearth lodge fireplace while I was checking out a wandering trader. Not enough stone bricks dropped for me to repair it. Edit: Fixed it.

Grendel's mom disappeared at some point. I've run into a number of zombie villagers, but no witches. I might end up waiting for structures to be properly enabled for potions.

Finally found a witch. Name tagged her and lured her into a minecart on the rail line to Pillar Watchtower, and I chase after the cart. As I approach the station, I see the witch for a second... and then she despawns. Thanks, Mojang!

I think the bug only affects hostile mobs:

https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-27535

Farm animals usually don't despawn, but with Minecraft one never can be sure.
